Obviously not the one you're looking for but there's a good version by a New Orleans R&B piano player named "Archibald" - from 1950 or so. You may have come across it in your searching. His version was called "Stack-A-Lee".

The version I am looking for sounds like somewhere in the 50s or 60s and is accompanied by a pipe organ. It is really unique and I cannot find it anywhere after hearing it in rotation on WUSC. I have tried calling the station and have not got in touch with anyone probably because it is a college radio station and they are on break, but am pretty sure none of the DJs would know the song anyway since it is in the general library and WUSC has a VAST library.
Anyway this is the closest version I have found, the one I am looking for has a singer and is a bit faster tempo:

I don't know this genre very well at all. However, if I had to guess I'd say that the song was done in the early-mid 90s. It reminds me a bit of Sarah McLachlan. The recording sounds a bit muffled; maybe that's just due to the quality of the MP3 clip but it might be a result of a tight recording budget for someone trying to break into the biz.
If you can narrow down the date of recording, you might want to listen to various CD anthologies of that period. You might not hear your song but you might hear the singer doing another track...
