Going to have to put it on a thumb drive to get it over to my music computer since the new one will not let it participate via my home network.

2016 Mono box

I'd always looked for Mono mixes of those 2 albums but only had the muddy "re-processed" versions.  Eventually I got the UK import of Aftermath, which was true stereo, had more tracks, and sounded much better.  I usually had to go down to Greenwich Village or "record shows" to get a lot of those imports.
I posted a link a few months ago about a guy who's had a little shop in the Village for decades - I used to go there a lot.  You may have even heard of this guy, he's apparently pretty well-known in record collector circles.  Vimeo video can't embed:

For The Record from Zoë Kase on Vimeo.

I've been meaning to get back to you on this but Porcupine Tree got in the way and derailed me and then lotsa other stuff happened.

Mono has been driving me crazy for a few years now.  The first attempts to play this set just wasn't working with the way things were set up a couple of carts and a preamp ago.  Stereo carts aren't designed to play mono seriously as a rule and I've been contemplating getting a mono cart for a long time, yet never have.  The rips sounded flat and empty and left me wondering what all of the fuss is about.  So this stuff sat until now.

Now back to my go to cart with a new stylus that has about 300 hours on it now, properly aligned and a serious upgrade to the phono preamp ADC.  I finally know exactly how good my cart is.  I also changed the way I'm ripping for mono by just doing it straight to mono rather than stereo and playing the stereo rip back.  It now sounds reasonable and I get it.  Played back Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet true stereo vs mono and the mono stands up on its own.  Less demanding, too.  The mind is not distracted by a guitar here and a harmonica there.  Most importantly the bass is even and that affects a mix more than anything else.

Fake stereo sucks.  I now understand the fuss about the Beatles mono set.  I tried to fix the last three tracks on Magical Mystery Tour which are fake stereo while the rest of the album is stereo.  There are a couple of foreign copies out there that have the whole album in real stereo.  But I reduced the stereo separation in these tracks bringing it to almost mono and it improved them enough to make them tolerable.  I might go and revisit some of my other albums that are fake stereo and try ripping them to straight mono and let the computer sort it out.  Years ago I tried to fold over Love's Alone Again Or into mono.  It turned out hinky since I was guessing how to do it.  It might come out better now.  Still learning.

Edit:  Watched the video, very cool.  I have heard of that store in NYC many times over the years, not the guy necessarily though. Found him on Discogs.  Has some interesting and very tempting stuff listed.  Might just have to give him some business and if his grading is good, just might have to give him even more.  My in store buying here in Cleveland did not involve any kind of stores like that.  There were a couple here that were hardcore shops like that here and one is still in operation, Record Revolution which now claims to be the oldest record store in operation since 1967.  It was hard to get to back in the day for me and it is still in a difficult place due to the same problem as always, parking.  That and their prices were always higher than most everyone else.  So I spent most of my time and money at one of the first Peaches Records that was absolutely huge.  Still have most of my records in their crates stacked against a wall.  There was another place, still in business but much changed since those days where I got all of my imports and MFSL pressings in the late 70's and early 80's.  I remember that all the MFSL pressings cost $15 back then.  A boat load of money back then.  I would take all my Kennedy halves that I got when driving the old coffee truck and go over to the shop and spend them there.

Lastly, that Police album down below GITM was just purchased by a recording engineer in Chicago who has some impressive credits.  He has agreed to listen to my rip of the album and scrutinize it.  I have nervously sent him the rip and await his feedback.

Cheers !

06/24/2022  EU 3 X 12" 45 rpm just arrived from the UK and is waiting for me at home for tonight.  {#Jump}
.
Well this sucks.  Side 5 of one set has a permanent repeat and will not advance.  Side 1 so far from the other set has the label bubbled so much that flipping it over makes Side 2 unplayable.  Sigh ...  I now have to continue with the other set and see if I can build one out of two.  This is why I buy two sets at once.  I still have the standard 33 set to go through and make sure that it is ok. Something is going to have to be returned, to England.  It makes my head hurt.

The music is interesting though.  I'll have to play it back at one time to try and figure it out.  I expect some of this to get added to the RP playlist.

Never saw The Police live.  Life was unsettled in those days and they always sold out quickly here in Cleveburg.  Have nearly everything on vinyl and CD.  Until pulling out this album, its been ages since I've listened to them closely.  They were always a 'song' band to me as opposed to an 'album' band.  This is a strange album to listen to as a whole.  It's great yes but out of context mentally.  I'll have to go back and start at the beginning and go in order to help it make more sense to me in the progression of the band.

Did get to see Sting live at my only Hollywood Bowl concert ever.  Annie Lennox was the opener, then Sting and and then they did songs together.  Really nice night and the sound at the HB is as good as everyone says.  Even bought the T Shirt that night.  I sat out their reunion tour after a lot of thinking.  The reviews were mixed and the tickets were really expensive.

I've been to the Hollywood Bowl quite a few times now.
Always interesting for sure.
I love that you can bring your own food in and go to one of many picnic areas in the trees to eat.
The last show we went to was Electric Light Orchestra. When Jeff did "Rockaria!", he brought out an opera singer who replicated the parts in the original song perfectly. It was stunning.
He did "10538 Overture"... a kinda obscure deeper cut. One of my psychedelic favorites. It too was stunning.

Just a fantastic idea and design. V impressive.

Now that I’ve got the turntable/amp up and running I’m reliving one of the best albums in my much smaller collection. Manzanera, Mel Collins, Godley & Creme, Simon Phillips…such an incredible thing.

1969 US 1st press  Needed a reset.  Hometown girl Lydia was overshadowed by Janis.  They were friends and Janis recommended Lydia to Cold Blood when they were forming.  Cover by Rick Griffin. There was a Japanese CD about 15 years ago otherwise pretty much a vinyl only thing.

Just stumbled on this while poking around wondering about what became of the band.
