How about "You're clearly being an asshole, let's close up the loopholes that let you be an asshole and get a bunch of people to routinely vote assholes out of office".

One approach hopefully reduces assholery, no guarantee, but it's a hope. The other approach not only guarantees assholery, it encourages the assholes to dig in ('see you did it too' ) and to go looking for a way to be a bigger asshole next time around.

In a only sort-of related turn, our Wyo legislature has passed a law saying it's illegal for a local cop to arrest someone in violation of a federal gun law. I don't think that was a problem but anyway, it's the same sort of law that's behind "sanctuary cities," which our same legislators would be howling about except now they have CRT to worry about.
