It's easy to see how some people get elected no matter what their politics may be. I sure never voted for him and was embarrassed by him when he was the minority whip, doing the party's dirty work (Anita Hill for example), but he spoke at our high school graduation and —maybe it was the cussing— had us all laughing. I went to a town hall at the Eagles one time and by that time he had an entourage of hecklers that followed him from town to town, not even Wyoming residents. He destroyed them and really the room went silent because it was such a thorough beating. Al told the audience, "ah don't worry. We're like Tom & Jerry*: they'll be at tomorrow's event ready to do it all again and I'll give it to 'em again."

*Or Itchy and Scratchy, sure.

Edit: I have a COMPLETELY inappropriate story about his daughter in law, though. Definitely for another time.

Saw Joey and Denny Laine and Christopher Cross with Todd and his team in good old Lake Charles LA a few years ago doing Revolver and a few other things. Everyone got their hit in, and would’ve done more except for the need to wrap it by 10p (casino curfew).

Really want to see that film. Gene's death may just spur me on to get it done.

It’s my favorite Hackman film but besides that I totally love it. There’s a scene where someone talks about a bum sleeping on a bench that has been burned into my brain. It makes it impossible for me to see anyone down on their luck without a deep overwhelming visceral reaction. And, I love the movies from that period anyway, like Three Days of the Condor. Smart cinema back then.

Most of today I’ve had Red Red Robin popping in and out of my brain…
