Mmh, yes,

Then I'd taken the kiss of seedcake back from his mouth
Going deep South, go down, mmh, yes,
Took six big wheels and rolled our bodies
Off of Howth Head and into the flesh, mmh, yes,

He said I was a flower of the mountain, yes,
But now I've powers o'er a woman's body, yes.

Stepping out of the page into the sensual world.
Stepping out...

To where the water and the earth caress
And the down of a peach says mmh, yes,
Do I look for those millionaires
Like a Machiavellian girl would
When I could wear a sunset? mmh, yes,

And how we'd wished to live in the sensual world
You don't need words--just one kiss, then another.

Stepping out of the page into the sensual world
Stepping out, off the page, into the sensual world.

And then our arrows of desire rewrite the speech, mmh, yes,
And then he whispered would I, mmh, yes,
Be safe, mmh, yes, from mountain flowers?
And at first with the charm around him, mmh, yes,
He loosened it so if it slipped between my breasts
He'd rescue it, mmh, yes,
And his spark took life in my hand and, mmh, yes,
I said, mmh, yes,
But not yet, mmh, yes,
Mmh, yes.

RP really needs to expand the available tracks from Kates albums. So many diversity on each album to limit it. Do people even know Prince and Clapton are on Red Shoes?

She is a peach and just so, so gifted but she do suffer from anxiety about doing stuff so my friend fingers are crossed.

Yes it most definitely was! I had a poster of it on my wall in my college dorm (no one else knew who she was). It was taken by photographer Gered Mankowitz who has taken a lot of famous rock photos.

But that is so not her personality.    Other women would love to have thousands upon thousands of horny men lusting after them.
Not Bush.
She expressed some regret in regards to that and other photos from the period.
Listen carefully to Kate Bush.   Her head is in a totally different place.   Sure, some of her stuff is totally sensual.  We can have powerfully 'sensual' without being 'sexual'.
Make more sense now?

I bet his spark did take life.

Great album, had it on repeat as I pulled all-nighters towards the end of my degree. A lovely foil to all the caffeine coursing through my veins. That Bulgarian choir she used, amazing, I've since caught some of that four/five part harmony stuff live in Bulgaria. So close to dissonance but always resolved.

"Sensual" is the word I've always used to describe her music, going back to the early days.
Kate has produced some stunning work over the years which defies categorisation.  I just know that its always a pleasure to hear it.  Thanks RP!

You're mistaken.
KB recorded 'Sexual Healing' for a Marvin Gaye tribute album, but it wasn't included.

Same magical blend of voice and uilleann pipes.

Both  are amazing.

I hope that Bill had this planned, otherwise, what an amazing coincidence.

I saw the last performance of the Firesign Theater, and this was how why ended their show/career, with Phil Proctor moving from their written material (some new, some old) into this soliloquy.
I rested my head back onto the back of my chair, closed my eyes, and just existed in one of the great moments of my life. Such an experience.

Just when I thought Kate had lost her edge, she released The Sensual World. Was a great album and the title tune simply incredible. Waited for the laughter that starts the next and guess I'll have to go dig out the CD for the afternoon run to the grocery store.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh....Kate.
The album this comes from was one that marked a very significant and mostly happy turning point in my life that saw me leave home to move in with the man who is now my beloved husband. Just hearing the bells at the beginning stirs up the ol' 'fun bumps'!

Howth Head is just north of Dublin Bay (famous residents included Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame, U2 Drummer Larry Mullen, Brendan Gleeson, F1 World Champion Damon Hill, many members of The Dubliners, Saoirse Ronan, Dolores O'Riodan of The Cranberries, Enya, Moya Doherty and John McColgan (creators of Riverdance)). So the link is there, I guess.

You guess?
I still want to have her babies
Bush wanted to use Molly's soliloquy verbatim but I guess the Joyce estate wasn't diggin it, until just over 8 years ago...

“Originally when I wrote the song The Sensual World, I had used text from the end of Ulysses but was disappointed not to receive permission,” said the singer.

“But when I came to work on this current project I though I would ask for permission again and this time they said yes. The song has now been retitled Flower of the Mountain and I am delighted that I have had the chance to fulfil my original concept.”

After 22 years it's yes, yes, yes to Kate Bush and Molly Bloom

A welcome improvement over the previous Patty Griffin song.  Love Kate.

Liove me some Kate Bush...

I have to take pause whenever I hear this track.
Those " yes.. yes.. and yes..."  had me think of Molly, and so it is: The song Flower of the Mountain by Kate Bush (originally the eponymous track off The Sensual World) sets to music the end of Molly Bloom's soliloquoy.

Love Kate, and the Sensual World album has some really moving moments and themes to it. Dammit Kate, tour! Tour! {#Hug}
Kate Bush's voice is like a warm, lingering sensual hug from someone to whom you have a strong attraction.  {#Hearteyes}
This is one of those songs that tastes better at dusk and not so much in daylight.

"The Kick Inside" has some great stuff on it, but her voice has really filled out since then. I like the later versions of the material from that album better for that reason.

The character in the song is Molly Bloom, from James Joyces' Ullysses, so if you know her soliloquy at the end of the book, the use of Molly's "yes" is um... yeah, "promising"!

She works for you… or she doesn't. This song has lost a bit of the specialness it had the first 50 times I listened to it, but, as Queen Lucia noted, the opening bells still push the hand over to turn up the volume just a little…

I completely agree, "The Kick Inside" is wonderful and one of my favorites.

I can't understand ,why there is nothing here to find from "The kick Inside" . I think , this is the best Kate Bush Album ever.
I had a really long post written about how Kate Bush must be my muse (it had to do with the snow plows finally plowing our humble street, but there were so many vehicles parked in front of their houses that it really didn't do much good except for burying those parked vehicles in the snow funneled from the middle of the street) because I was motivated to go move my vehicle, to no avail - the damage was done and the plows never came back.

So - I came back indoors, after having been spurred to action by this song. Okay, I accomplished nothing that anyone will ever actually see.  But I did accomplish something - something more visceral and deep.  I went forth in anger, and I came back in peace. And I didn't kill anyone, send a nastygram, or throw a rock. And I'm sitting here now, smiling benignly, and the world turns, and life goes on.

Kate Bush's music does that to me. (Why can't it just motivate me to take a long, hot bubble-bath?!) {#Roflol}
Always moved by Kate Bush

She makes the word "yes" sound like an invitation to a night of wanton abandon, only without the guilt afterwards.
