In Candy's room
There are pictures of her heroes on the wall
To get to Candy's room
You gotta walk the darkness of Candy's hall

Strangers from the city
Call my baby's number, and they bring her toys
When I come knocking, she smiles pretty
She knows I wanna be Candy's boy

There's a sadness hidden in that pretty face
A sadness all her own from which no man can keep Candy safe
We kiss, my heart's rushes through my brain
And the blood rushes in my veins
The fire rushes towards the sky

And I go driving
Driving deep into the night
I go driving deep into the light
In Candy's eyes

She says, "Baby, if you wanna be wild
You got a lot to learn
Close your eyes, let them melt
Let them fire, let them burn
'Cause in the darkness
There'll be hidden worlds that shine"
When I hold Candy close
She makes those hidden worlds mine

She has fancy clothes and diamond rings
She has men who'll give her anything
She wants but they don't see
That what she wants is me
Oh, and I want her so
I'll never let her go, no, no, no
She knows that I'd give
All that I've got to give
All that I want, all I live
To make Candy mine
Tonight

Summer of 1978 .
god, what a summer.
Saw him twice that year!
One day, in 1978, Bruce landed in my room with this song, 3 minute of a hearthquake. Nothing was the same after.

Yep, Max is earning his paycheck on this one.
My favorite song from my favorite Bruce Springsteen album.  I love hearing it in the mix!  Thanks Bill and Rebecca

OMG, I played the hell out of this record when I was in high school....loved this song

Springsteen needs to put out a Greatest Hits or something. I never really got into his music but he has put out some gems for sure.

Yes, but his Greatest Hits are not necessarily always his Greatest Songs.  The acoustic lower energy Ghost of Tom Joad becomes hair-on-fire when the Boss teams up with Tom Morello for a greatest live blazing rocker version.  Jungleland is epic, and a hit with fans, but maybe not the public (length being just one of its anti-hit quotient).   Land of Hope and Dreams is quantum writer and performer Springsteen, but greatest hit? ... no.  Anyway, with 48 years or so on vinyl dial digital, he's gonna need a 3 volume greatest megawork.
Max Weinberg called this his favorite Springsteen song. I wonder why?

Those are my sentiments exactly.  Yet as an "older" listener, I can appreciate him more now.  The youthful energy of this song is amazing.

Buy the album - this is a masterpiece.  I literally wore the vinyl out on my parents Magnavox - at an impressionable age this, Born to Run and The River set the stage (yes, Greetings and W, I & ESS were there too).  I speak for many - these stand the test of time.  Youthful exuberance, unbridled attitude, family turmoil, world wonder, confusion, hormone rage, you name it - he felt it and tried to convey it to anyone who would listen.  With a band that was second to none.  Long live Jersey's finest!

unfortunately, rap is closer to what rock n roll used to be that today's rock n roll.
Love this song!

Yeah, one more time, Mr. Bill. I just go into this really weird space when I hear it only once. Thinking of all those f-ing now middle age & beyond frat boys wanting to come at me for saying this was his best song. Rock 'n roll may eventually die, but annoying as F entitled to their opinions only aged frat boys sure never will. Alas.

Want just one play of 100% enjoyment only.
play more from this album!

Some might be so bold as to say this was his best song. I know I know. It's hard to compete with the dramatics of, say, Thunder Road and such. I love Candy's Room so, but tend to lose its in-the-moment-ness when it plays here, as I can't help but think of how many stoners does it take to argue that Candy's Room was Springsteen's best song... while changing no light bulbs whatsoever.

Top 5 for sure.
The musical resolution at the very end is extremely well done. What a great song.
a extremely overlooked classic

Very much love and kind of don't like this song.  It sounds like the genetic material of Arcade Fire.

Please try listening again when the meth wears off.
Candy's Room was rarely a part of any Bruce set-list after the original Darkness tour.  I was lucky enough to see him when the E Street Band reunited in 2000 and caught one of the only concerts where he did fit this into the set.  Like everything else that night.........

Unfortunately, "Incident on 57th Street" is not in the RP playlist.  "Rosalita" is the only song off album #2 that is played here, and even that hasn't been heard in about 6.5 years.

You better just go & throw on The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle to get the job done!

We haven't heard Rosalita in 6.5 years?!?  This is a tragedy which needs to be addressed immediately!  I would switch to spotify and fix it myself, but the FLAC stream is SO good for the ears it is really hard to listen to anything else now.

  I was in college as well.  Guy I new grew up with him and was always going on about it and blowing shitty harmonica to his tunes.  Then I transferred to to another school and the guy next door in the dorm was a Bruce nut and constantly blaring the vinyl.  I went to see him in Cincy around 1980. I took this metal head chick I had the hots for and she was skeptical but totally into it when the place started rock'n.  She dated me after that. {#Kiss} {#Jump}

Thanks Bruce!!
I have been thinking of this song all week, and now it pops up. I think I have superpowers! {#Eek}

Bill, Thanks for playing more Bruce lately!
It's just enough to keep the mix diverse and never the obvious choices. Now if you really want to get my attention, play "Incident on 57th Street" one of these days!

Play Girls in Their Summer Dresses for this summer.

HIs voice sounds soo Good and loving...

btw, loved this song when it came out

Thanks Bill
One of my all time favorite Bruce songs.  So underplayed and underrated!  Hearkens back to the time when the Boss so perfectly captured the angst, hopes, dreams, fears and desires of being a teenager wanting to break free.
Nice to see this one is back in regular rotation again.
Yes!
Last month was the first play in 8.5 years; glad to see it back in rotation.
This is not classic rock.   This is poetry !

oh yes! I get goosebumps when I hear this song out of the blue, as it is so seldom, and if that makes me easily pleased, lucky me!

Bruce fans are so easily pleased. It's kind of sweet.

Thanks for playing Darkness era Bruce. Wish he would record another raw, emotional, heavy guitar-and-piano-driven album like this!

how in the hell is he trying to imitate bowie in this number, pray tell?
Bruce speaking at the beginning of this song sounds like Eddie Vedder.

Name one Classic Rock station that plays this song...they're aren't any. Unless you count one random spin for a Bruce Springsteen play day. If you had any knowledge of the guy's catalog you'd know that this is an ecletic choice. It's just an ignorant comment all around really.

I recently found my black tee-shirt from the "Darkness" tour in 78. Funny, it doesn't fit anymore. I have to say that although I'm not a big fan of Bruce's work during the past two decades, the show I saw on this tour was perhaps the best show I've ever seen. 3 hours in Madison Sq. Garden - It was Bruce's sister's 16th birthday and he ran into the stands, got his sister and threw her over his shoulder and put her ontop of a tower of speakers and had the band play a medley of sweet 16 songs for her. Amazing show.
The Darkness tour was Bruce's best IMHO. Fortunately a good number of these were recorded for radio broadcast and are still "floating around" out there.

Can someone upload Rosalita by Bruce? I just heard it for the first time recently and was floored. Would love to hear it in rotation!

Not a very big fan of this song but it's ok! still can't get used to songs that get played on this station........interesting though :-) Cornbe
i'm more of a recent springsteen fan - meaning, i only became a fan about 5 yrs ago...and my favorites are Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ and Darkness....this song, especially live, is something, alright. definitely a good rating from me. :nodhead:
Great Song! very Bittersweet too. Beautiful. Gets a 10 from me.

What a surprise! Remember playing this on vinyl till the grooves were worn down.
His very best album. I don't consider myself a Springsteen fan. But I play the entire cd loudly. The 2 best cuts are Adam Raised a Cain and Prove it all Night.
