I was going to ask you about these because I remember a conversation... I'm still listening/catching up on the revisionist history podcast. I tend to fall asleep if I just sit on the couch listening to anything, so I'm probably going to be fine with the dozen I have on my phone... for a few months.

I listen to old time radio detective stories sometimes when I travel - I love the feeling of being transported to the 40’s and 50’s - they usually have the old adverts included
its a hoot

I only thought to look at podcasts because I wanted to hear more of a particular Hidden Brain story that I heard some of on NPR.

Starving The Watchdog: Who Foots The Bill When Newspapers Disappear?

Guess what: you do. Cities that lose their daily paper pay more to borrow money.

Then this one came up, and the lead-in says it's about the nature of obsessive behavior, but the story itself is OMG with a lot of twists and turns.

The Cowboy Philosopher: A Tale Of Obsession, Scams, And Family

January 7, 2019 • In 2009, an old man died in a California nursing home. His obituary included not just his given name, but a long list of the pseudonyms he'd been known to use. In this episode, we trace the life of Riley Shepard, a hillbilly musician, writer, small-time con man and, perhaps, a genius.

Lots to listen to there, but in looking for other stuff in a similar vein, a suggestion came up for Malcolm Gladwell's "Revisionist History." It's one of those things where I'm hanging out in a room full of people who are a lot smarter than I am, but they all do a good job of keeping me up to speed. And a couple of memorable ideas have stuck, mostly the one from an episode "Saigon 1965" where at one point, the subject says "seeing the evidence doesn't mean that you change your mind. Seeing the evidence just increases your fear."

Anyway, good stuff.

I start each morning with Up First - just the right amount of news while I'm showering.
