Anyone here as tired as I am watching Fox News hammer away at our "horrible" health care system? I mean, I know it isn't perfect. What is? Still, I've grown up in this country with the comfort of knowing health care would be a 'given' for me and my family. I'm in my 50's, I feel pretty safe in this country. Our neighbours to the south need to be careful not to be swayed by the alarmist news reporting from the idiots at Fox and CNN. One woman goes off on our health care system, and the media rallies around her. Silly. Agree?

I believe that he was not properly appreciated for his views of the nature of Confederation and the meaning of the Canadian experience of nation building. I thought his words in the quotation I posted to be germane. Maybe he was Canada's Jimmy Carter in some ways – only appreciated after he was gone. Nice to see you here icee. One of my wishes is to meet you and Bunnee-boi one of these days. Relevant and appropriate, indeed. I hope to meet you one day, too. Cheers!

( Canadian joke, eh?) He came to power in the 1979 election , defeating the Liberal government of Pierre Trudeau and ending sixteen continuous years of Liberal rule, making Clark the youngest man to become Prime Minister at 39 years of age. His stay was brief as he only won a minority government and it was defeated on a motion of non-confidence. I voted for him in my first federal election-he had one of the shortest tenures in Canadian history. I'm sure the two are not related!

I don't think it has anything to do with a military match-up though, I think its because our two countries (govs) have a lot of shared financial interests.
If Minnesota ends up "wanting your water" at some future date, we'll just dam the Red River that flows from here into Canada.
Doesn't Canada have a claim to the Artic Circle? Just wondering about the eventual mineral oil rights up there. I think a bunch of countries will be fighting over that one

Wasn't there something about a shoe guy that tried to come in to the US over on the west coast? Seems like I read he may have been flying in from Canada, but he could have been flying in from any where in the world so I could be wrong on that.
The only thing we have to worry about from Canada, in my opinion, is how many fish we can legally bring back across the border when we go fishing there.

I think Obama is likely to carry a more positive perception but Harper's message has to "play in Peoria" to bring the pendulum back from its current extreme.

Maybe you would still send your troops here to help the American people, after all we do have agreements in place to help each other if there's some kind of disaster

He looks and sounds very Prime Ministerial(and I am not a great fan ) He has just said, in English, that threats to the United States are threats to Canada, and the Canadian government regards them as such. Harper, but have heard him spoken of in some circles as sort of a G.W. Bush clone type of guy. He looks like he's smarter, but possibly has the same kind of neo-conservative, we will rule the entire world as is our superior right, type of mind set. I should read more about his policies before I agree with that though. Canadian timber companies have had to close several sawmill operations here in Minnesota recently. The recession doesn't seems to be hitting you guys quite as hard but I am sure you're still feeling it. I heard an interview with the CEO of Shell from the Neatherlands say that they are stopping further development of the Oil Sand mineing operations until things get better. How do you feel about them using so much of your county's pure water for it?

People here have always thought about running off to Canada, if things get bad here. We kind of think about you as a sort of heavenly refuge in times of possible trouble. (maybe it was watching all of those Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons with Dudley Do-right.) As a child and even as an adult I didn't realize Dudley was a parody. I only changed my mind after I met Beaker here on RP.
I hope our borders will always be open to each other and that we always remain independant, individual countries.

WE HAZ YOUR PREZNIDENT President Barack Obama is met by Governor General Michaelle Jean as he arrives in Ottawa, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009. (For those who are wondering, Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Governor General Jean is the titular head of state and thus met the President when Air Force One landed in Ottawa. The Governor General is appointed by the Queen on the recommendation of the Parliament of Canada. President Obama is now taking part in a working lunch with Prime Minister Steven Harper, Canada's elected head of government.)
