figured it out right around the fifth grade when I participated in a playground version of

Plus having to haul around that band snare suitcase was about as uncool as it could get. Lets see, what else. Oh yeah, girls.
I always liked the older ones but talking to one would have brought a death ray or something, I was sure. lol

I've often thought what happened to those (Catholic) girls.
Since that "relationship" really started when I was in the 1st grade (1961) through the 3rd... some of them would be 74 now.
I remember getting a Valentine delivered while I was in the classroom one morning just before lunch by one of them in their group.
Boy, was that embarrassing in front of all the guys.
I didn't really care about that. I just ate the Lifesaver they tied on the front of their homemade card, and went to lunch.
It was a Butter Rum Lifesaver. To this day... they are my favorites. When you can find them.

I was friends with them all. They though I was cute... and harmless.

It's one of the hotels featured in the movie from 1963 "Palm Springs Weekend". It is now a real nice rehab center.
They were changing two openings from the lobby area into the back offices.
I installed the drywall/ corner bead, finished it, and spray textured it. A semi- long day. Many, many interruptions from managers/ staff/ doctors going passed me all day long. And the proverbial questions and amazement of how fast I was moving. GET OUT OF THE WAY! Sheesh!
Thankfully it was a time and material job.
I took this shot of a poster on a wall in the back hallway. They know where their roots are there.

I was working on that wall just to the right of Troy.

They tried to sell it, halfheartedly, then it was vacant, and then rented it to one of the son's daughters and her kids. After they moved out this family moved in a couple years ago. I've never really met them; don't know their names. Mother with a son and a daughter and the daughter's two small children (one a baby in arms). I've seen and heard "normal" arguments and once saw one that concerned me, but I was assured at the time that everything was "okay." Yesterday was not okay by any stretch. Screaming, throwing things through an open door. The mother standing on the sidewalk, distraught, on the phone with the police. Two town cops and three county sheriffs. The young woman taken away in handcuffs. A very large knife taken and bagged for evidence. I did not see anyone with any injuries, though. Very scary.

Our neighborhood, and the entire Coachella Valley, has become the new STR (short term rental) capital of the world.
People are buying homes they really can't afford. Rent them out over weekends, concert times, tennis tournaments or just vacation rentals. And they make killer bucks for a short time of rental.
There's a huge backlash around from local homeowners in the whole valley that don't like the idea of these homeowners, mostly from out of town, turning our neighborhoods into a hotel business.
I've seen some bad issues in our own neighborhood.
Heck. We've had Elon Musk stay a few doors down from us. And Of Monsters and Men perform in the same house backyard during the Coachella a few years back.
Our local city has started to crackdown on the out of controlness off this situation. Because of that... things have improved somewhat.
