When I got divorced, I lost almost everything. It wasn't the material object, it was the memories. All my children's toys, for example. I wish I had pictures at least.
And speaking of pictures, these treasured memories should be scanned and saved digitally, because even if they aren't damaged in a disaster, they spoil due to age.
If you have homeowner's insurance, and would like to benefit from it in the event of a disaster, this is good advice. Or don't.
Do you argue about everything?

That is why I have never taken much stock in my personal belongings. I respect others that do, but for me it is just stuff. I actually am trying to create as little materialistic wake as possible. There is a strong pull in humanity to try to have one's legacy reach into the future as far as possible, as part of my rebellious sprit I am actually trying to do the opposite. I think it would be cool to be forgotten completely as soon as possible for no other reason than it is contrarian.

Also, you then have a record for insurance purposes, so even if you have a major fire, you have a record of your belongings.
Save these images on a disc or flash drive (even better, have at least 2 of each) and put them in a safe place off site, up in the cloud, a safe deposit box, etc.
