Compelling, yes. Moving, yes. But still...marriage is between a man and a woman...there are some principles many hold dear...that is one of them. I'm not a man without compassion or understanding. I have a cousin who is a lesbian...I've met her other half...two great women, two women you can't help but love, and I do. But, marriage? Sorry, no. Civil Union with all rights? Indeed...
You're hung up on a matter of semantics. You don't mind gays having every right and responsibility that comes with a legal marriage but you just don't want them to call it a marriage?
When Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell started doing business in the same building they called that a marriage but did you get all up in arms then? I don't think so.
Let go of your idea of what the word "marriage" means because it's wrong. It's wrong because to insist on your definition hurts other people, but calling what they have a marriage hurts you in no way. Perpetuating your argument is exactly equal in merit to demanding that "gay" means "happy." It's like holding dear the belief that gentlemen should wear hats. Throw away your dictionary when it gets outdated. They write new ones for a reason.
This is just another way to segregate "us" from "them" for no other reason than it makes some people uncomfortable to know that other people are happy.

As you've probably noticed, we try to stay as politically neutral as possible here on RP. We definitely don't believe in imposing our political beliefs on our listeners, and we've always encouraged the free expression of political views of all colors here in our listener forum.
Here in California, however, there is an ongoing issue that — in our minds, anyway — transcends politics. It's not a red, blue, conservative, or liberal issue. It's an issue of love, and tolerance, and respect for the grand diversity of human experience and emotion. So we've posted a video that addresses this issue on our front page (& I've posted it here as well). If it moves you like it moved us, please share it with your friends.
To those of you who have a political or religious opinion that predisposes you against this subject: please take a moment to watch this video with an open mind and an open heart. That's all we ask. Thanks.
Absolutely!
The word "marriage" should not ever appear in any regulatory legislative document.
It seems that a combination of hopeful complacency on the part of gay couples and arrogant ignorance on the part of the uneducated, unenlightened, and uncaring has led to this travesty of human freedom and everyone's inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness.as guaranteed by the constitution of this nation.
Kenneth Starr... isn't he the a**hat who spent millions of dollars of the taxpayers money in a one-man crusade against the Clintons and managed to get no convictions? If that's the same jagov then I must say that he's in the right company. I really dislike Gaycists.
Lots of beautiful, happy people who have been lucky enough to find someone they want to marry and spend the rest of their lives with. Why should anyone be able to stand in the way of their happiness because of their own intolerance and bigotry?
