You're welcome. Whatever you need to get thru this time of oppressive cheerfulness. Me, I'll have some eggnog.

We live in a diverse place, lots of cultures mingling. We each bring something from our own traditions, and our culture is richer for it. If you insist on dealing with that culture on only your own terms—and being offended by all the others—you will miss out on that experience. The space you get to wish people a happy Hanukkah comes from letting them wish you a merry Christmas.

Namaste.

If someone insists on saying Merry Christmas to me, I assume that they think that I should be celebrating their holiday. I don't wish Happy Hanukkah to people who don't celebrate. It's ridiculous, but whatever.

This is the problem with religion, it creates exclusiveness.

In that spirit, I will not wish you a merry Christmas. Have a miserable, thin-skinned, easily-offended Christmas full of imagined slights and religious paranoia.

You just don't get it, do you. Do you get pissy when someone says "good luck" or "have a nice day"? I think birthdays are a load of crap, but I don't get upset when someone says "happy birthday" to me. Why do you hate it when someone says something nice to you. Show some class and just thank them and move on.

I didn't say I hated it, I just don't get why people insist on saying something to me that is totally meaningless to me. The examples that you gave are not relevant, they are completely different than wishing someone Merry Christmas.

This kind of thinking, that everyone should enjoy Christmas, how could they not?  is what leads to Jewish kids being held in the principal's office until they accept Jesus as their savior (that's a true story, one of many).

But it's just my opinion, and obviously I am wrong and you are all right.

That is absolutely correct even though you are trying to be sarcastic.

I find it amusing that that those who have the self perception of being open minded are so often the most close minded. Forest for the trees...........

Yep yep! I think that people who get offended either way need to just STFU and chillax! This devout Agnostic makes it a point to say Merry Christmas cause that is what I want to say and I really don't give a rats ass if someone has their panties in such a wad that either a Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas would offend them. Goes equally for the devout Christians or the devout Anti Christians.....get a life!{#Rolleyes}

Tom Tomorrow's right, of course. "Happy Holidays" is a perfectly valid greeting, not "PC" at all... it's just a blanket term that in my book covers Thanksgiving thru New Year's and any holiday or religious observance you care to include. But that does not mean a person should never say "Merry Christmas," either. Evidently if I say "Merry Christmas" to you you'll bristle. But what if next February, someone says to you, "Gung Hay Fat Choy!"? Do you get irritated then and say "I'm not Chinese so can it, Buster!"? No.

Okay I'm done you get the point. Or not.
