Well, that was my last PT appointment! The PT knew he was done with me... he had already just about gotten to the limit of how many cortisone treatments he would give me, and now it's just a matter of continuing to stretch and ice and swim (need a LITTLE more warm weather!!) and... and it's time to look into a pair of these: The dreaded night splint. It's to let my plantar tendon heal in the extended position. Makes sense to me...

You know...CYA As to the value of advice from medical professionals, sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't valuable. Sometimes advice from friends is ALL people have. Learning to listen to your body is an art that needs to be cultivated.

I feel for you. As a runner, PF is the one recurring injury that I tend to get when I up mileage or speed. In my experience, PT and lots of time are about the only things that will help. You say your PT does "brief massage." Brief is OK, but I think it should be pretty deep and intense massage on the heel and arch. It will be painful and you will feel the grinding of the tissues. Does your PT have you doing foot strengthening exercises on a balance board? Another good one I've done is to stand on one foot while bouncing a medicine ball to myself. Your PT should also be showing you exercises you can do at home. Good luck. I know it takes time. Plateau-ing is probably typical, but be sure to ask questions and make sure the PT feels you are progressing as expected.
rosedraws wrote:So, I've been going to PT for 5 weeks (plantar fasciitis).
He does a little ultrasound and a brief massage on my heels, then gives me a dose of cortisone. Last week he taped my arches for the first time. (I had to take the tape off after 3 days, because I developed a rash (it's supposed to stay on for 4-5 days)).
I've done everything right. Swimming and biking to keep up some fitness routine, and stretching and icing the injured area. There has been progress... but the past 2 weeks I've plateaued.
Is there any point to continuing PT? Should I find someone else? I feel SICK about the money I'm spending.
