I don't think the mystery adds enough to the event to be worth the effort. After the first one, everyone would know who's in their group anyway, so I say don't even try to make that an aspect of this.

No need for mysteries. Looking at the song ratings of people on your list is most insightful. Seeing what one has in common with folks on the list and coming up with cool segues and themes should keep this going nicely. Not to mention a lot of music forgotten and not played here at RP. Sort of if they like this, then they might like them too. Who knows. But this still sounds like a great thing to do.
