I don't like the word divisions, but I could get behind having conferences... though that would have to change every couple of months when the shuffling of the groups takes place. You know, sort of like the reorganization of the conferences to align with their geography better.

This is exactly why I'm a graphics and word software guy and not a spreadsheet jock (although I know my way around Excel very well, thanks). This is far too much left-brain thinking, IMHO, whereas the enjoyment of music and creating CD mixes is a primarily a right-brain activity. (Yeah, musical structure falls more into a left-brain arena, to be sure, but listening is right-brain.)

In short, why are folks quick to wanna put this project in boxes? I get it that the founder needs to perform a minimal amount of organization, but let it be just that...minimal. It's the (low-cost) creative aspect of this project that makes it enticing.

EDIT: In short, please don't take a fun thing and make it resemble my work. The concept is in place, it'll work, everyone will dig it, and we don't need to wrap it all up in some formalized structure with org charts and the like. (If that's how the founder wants to do it behind-the-scenes, great.) I also get enough competition out in the real world, so I don't need/want anything tied in with stick and ball sports.

I like divisions - like the old NHL division names:  Patrick, Norris, Smythe, Adams... old NHL guys they named the divsions after.  It was cool. There were two division each in two Conferences: The Prince of Wales  and the Clarence Campbell.
Maybe we could use names of departed musicians.  Might be cool to be in the Coltrane or Mingus  division.   Perhaps the Morrison, or Hendrix division, or even Cobain or Buckley Conferences?

Hosting duties then pass to the next person in the pod.  Rest for four months, receive CDs in the mail, squeal with delight.  After four months, you're up again.  NAF will assign you somewhere and get you the snail mail addy's.

as well...does each host get to chose the theme? meaning, the cd i get will have a theme...and am i, when i send out my 5 (or however many) cds required to use that theme or can i come up with one of  my own?

I can't answer the first part of this, but as to the second part...

The way I understand it, is that each co-host picks their own theme each month. For example, Fishy, me, Welly, and I believe another friend of Fishy's are the co-hosts this first month, and we're each picking our own themes. The same would hold true for those in each group that co-host next month.

Those of us that are co-hosting this month know who the members of our group are. Wasn't sure if we're supposed to keep that to ourselves or not...

And I like that idea too, Zep.

Fishy, whaddaya think about posting themes/playlists after all the members of a group receive their CDs that month?

Since each group gets their own mixtape, can the rest of us see all the mixlists after the CDs are sent out?
Edit. I promise not to crib. Much.

In reference to the sad Norton Buffalo post I put up this evening, it reminds me of a story he told us during the concert.

He and Roy (slide guitarist Rogers) were on a cultural exchange in China. When asked the name of their number, they told the emcee it's called Shake Your Money-Maker.

When translated to the nationals, it came out as Shake Your Money-Making Machine.
