I commented somewhere yesterday (I think) how it's sort of only-on-the-internet odd that I could feel so close to Cool Beans and yet never have "met" her husband. Pleased to do so. Wish I hadn't—this way—but pleased, nonetheless.

I was hoping I could meet you under different circumstances...I've heard so much about you. (The day you met Beanie was my favorite story of all!) I will be very glad to come show my support this week. We have been honored to be a part of the Bug's life as well.

On my way home from work tonight I was thinking about Kiersten and the following Grateful Dead song came to mind. Jerry Garcia actually wrote it about Janis Joplin after her overdose, but I think the words are a tribute to Kiersten as well. BIRDSONG All I know is something like a bird within her sang, All I know she sang a little while and then flew on, Tell me all that you know, I'll show you snow and rain. If you hear that same sweet song again, will you know why? Anyone who sings a tune so sweet is passin' by, Laugh in the sunshine, sing, cry in the dark, fly through the night. Don't cry now, don't you cry, don't you cry anymore. Sleep in the stars, don't you cry, dry your eyes on the wind. All I know is something like a bird within her sang, All I know she sang a little while and then flew off, Tell me all that you know, I'll show you snow and rain.

but....now.....seeing the outpouring of love for beanie and her family, through this wonderful community, i feel closer. i feel like i can offer a piece of my heart, to try to lend comfort to a stranger.
kiersten is now a bright angel for her loved ones, and her light, and legacy, will guide them through the rest of their lives, until they meet again. for that, i say thank you, Bug....
Beanie, i am truly touched by your angel. reading about your wonderful little girl has brought me to tears many times. i am also impressed with the grace, honesty and love you have displayed around this tragedy. you are an inspiration. thank you.

Beanie: Your grace and dignity during this most trying of times stand as pillars of humanity. I have no adequate words to express my sorrow over your loss. I have only words to express my gratitude for your presence during all times, good, bad, and, now, tragic. It speaks volumes, never more so loudly than now, at the hour of this greatest personal trial. You enrich the lives of others. Kiersten did as well. Now she lives on through not only your endeavors in this regard, but of so many here who undoubtedly are thinking now of how they can better emulate what she understood and mastered in such a short period of time. That is a fitting tribute, and a wonderful legacy. Thank you, and thank you Kiersten.

I only knew Kiersten from Beanie's incidental comments: doing kid things with her, bandaging her scrapes, sharing little jewels of everyday life. The joy that Beanie got from being her mother came through clearly. I always got a sense of a happy child with a loving, devoted mother. Good feelings seemed to emanate from Beanie's descriptions of her world with Kiersten and I gratefully shared that second-hand happiness, as I expect did others here. Thank you, Bug, for the light you brought into your mother's life, and to mine.

The last five songs Kiersten ripped from Steve's iPod:
Danny Elfman — The Breakfast Machine (from PeeWee's Big Adventure) (she used to pogo across the room to this) Lou Monte — Dominic the Donkey Arlo Guthrie — Alice's Restaurant (she memorized this) Barnes and Barnes — Fishheads (she used to sing this at the grocery store) Tiny Tim — Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight
I love Fishheads!! From this point forward, it has been officially renamed " Kiersten's Fishheads"Holding you and your family in my thoughts, along with everyone else....

This concept hit me in a very profound way about 4-5 years ago, and I've been living it as best I can ever since. To me, I am the absolute HAPPIEST when I am engaged in what 12 steppers call "service work" for others. Being there, listening, lending a hand, seeing new inspiration in their eyes, seeing their sad funk melt away before my eyes......lifting them up in traumatic times......and if all of this is accomplished by just being ourselves, then hallelujah! And times like these just make me extra grateful for all the time I've been given to do this, and all the years. If The Bug can accomplish this sort of inspiration in just nine years (and especially in the last 3 days), then Hallelujah x 1000!

I went to bed late last night, and as I lay there, waiting for sleep to overtake me, thoughts of Bug crept into my mind. They bought me to tears for like the 100th time yesterday. Here I am, never having met her, or her mom and dad, and it affected me so. Here I am, hundreds of miles away, with no connection to your daughter and you other than this thing called the internet, and her passing sent enough energy through the universe to have me crying into my pillow at two o'clock in the morning.
I don't think we know just what we mean to other people, or how much we actually impact others when we are alive, but its plainly apparent when we transition to another form of energy that it changes the state of being for so many. Perhaps Bug's great reason for being, the work of her soul, was to remind us all that we DO make a difference in others lives, and because of that, to take greater care of each other.

She said there were tons of people all at once, then about 3-4 weeks after the funeral when she really needed people, they were a little more scarce.Anyway..... Beanie, I feel really blessed to have met up with you the few times that I did - but I really wish I'd followed up on that Cleveland visit sooner, because I'd always wanted to meet KES—-after hearing all the many, wonderful stories about her, which never ceased to light up your eyes, your face...your very being. I will echo what others have said several times, now....I'm so glad that she had such a loving family and could help generate love wherever she went and with whomever she encountered...and that your life was so profoundly touched by that kind of a precious angel among you. The thoughts and prayers continue to flow northward to you all... Yes, and in the months that follow also. I found this to be true. When reality sets in.
