Yes that sounds good. If that fixes it then it couldn't hurt clean all its switches and potentiometers.

I had some electro magnetic contact cleaner which has disappeared. I have some CRC Lectro Motive cleaner. I'll look for some CRC QD Electronics cleaner.

If I'm going to be spraying this in there I'm thinking I want to use gravity and  some sort of overspray shield  to keep the solution from getting all over the place. Probably spray some, work the switch, then repeat. Give a little time for the solution to dissipate, then run a test. Does that sound about right?

You probably won't be able to get a swab of any kind in close enough so a spray cleaner like CRC QD Electronics cleaner or worst case Radio Shaft Tuner Cleaner. It foams and stinks so I only use it if nothing else is around..

I hope this isn't messing up your vinyl thread Dave. If you want to send me a PM that would be alright.

Anyway, I have the Sherwood on the bench, and I think I can get in there with the right cleaner and the right swab, if I knew what the right cleaner and the right swab was.

I'm pretty handy, although electronics is probably where I'm weakest. But, I'm pretty sure I can do this. Access to the input selector switch is a little tricky, but I think I can get in there. I don't think I want a bunch of solution dripping around in there....

Any suggestions? (besides taking it to a professional)

This was TEAC's first US model from around '61 after they bought out Berlant Concertone. Its tube and half track format. It stolen styled after Ampex decks and was their attempt to break into the "pro" market in the US.

I'm using a big Akai amp/preamp set up right now, Dave. I have issues with a channel output on the Kenwood. Years ago I replaced some semiconductors including the output amp on one channel, and the same thing is required on the other side I believe. I hope I can find the components online.

Cool! I owned one of those Kenwood 11 receivers years ago. They are very nice. Nice to see you still have your reel to reel also. The Empire 698 in my pics I bought new in '77 and still have the box, manual etc. I also have a Empire 598 I bought around '74 packed up here.
