Oh yes, complete snobbery, good catch. As for the second part, I rarely like them in the first place. If it is new and popular, chances are I never liked them. I defy you to find anyone more of a music snob than I.

This is just snobbery. While most groups honored at the Grammys are just corporate shills, every once in awhile a really good band wins. Don't write them off just because they won the Grammy. The very nice folks at Merge have been working in earnest for a while now; I'm glad they receive some measure of recognition. I think Arcade Fire is pretty good, but there are artists on that label who I prefer.

Arcade Fire is on Merge records fer chrissakes. The Grammy's usually nominate 4 hacks and one respectable act. They're the token nod to quality that just happened to win somehow.

Agreed. Self praise is no praise at all. Even the ones open to public voting (over here, anyway) are rigged, in that you are always presented with a selected shortlist and there's no 'None Of The Above' box.

Awards ceremonies in general, and the Grammys specifically are pretty hollow, self-congratulatory, ostentatious displays to me: "Ooh, look, I've spent more money on this garish dress than you make in ten years." How many Grammys did that insipid hack Christopher Cross win in just 1981 alone? Some artists I really admire have won Grammys, but essentially, it's meaningless to me. Just my 2¢
