Ruthie Foster is the real deal, solid gold. Seen her several times, never ceases to amaze me. She is not as well know as, say, Bonnie Raitt, but she can hold her own with anybody on the planet.

I heard about Ruthie from Bonnie Raitt in an interview on NPR; said she was super special, and I started following Raitt carefully after that. One of my favorites:

We saw her a few years back, she just killed it. One of the very few lead singers who also plays lead guitar: she doesn't take a break during the guitar solo, she's playing it! Bonnie, Ruthie, and Carolyn Wonderland are the only ones I can think of off the bat, but I'm sure there are a few gentlemen who can pull it off too...
