Have you tried http://StaggerLee.com ? I googled for "all the versions of Stagger Lee" and that site was one of the hits. There is a link on StaggerLee.com for "the list" but it doesn't display anything in my browser, perhaps because that page is not delivered via https .

This page

https://www.americanbluesscene...

gives a brief history of the events surrounding the song and mentions some of the more famous versions. It also points to the list page of StaggerLee.com.

Another hit from my Google search—this one might do the trick for ya:

"Cover versions of Stagger Lee written by Lloyd Price, Harold Logan" . This page title is misleading because the Web site acknowledges the author only as "Traditional" and there are many versions listed that pre-date Lloyd Price.

https://secondhandsongs.com/wo...

That page lists 146 versions with title, performer and recording date.

More possibly helpful hits showed up when I googled "Stagger Lee covers" .

Well this was a yawner.

This wasn't much better.

Seems like there should be a nerd out there with a comprehensive listing but I ain't findin' it.

Obviously not the one you're looking for but there's a good version by a New Orleans R&B piano player named "Archibald" - from 1950 or so.  You may have come across it in your searching.  His version was called "Stack-A-Lee".

I am looking for a particular unique version of the 19th century murder ballad Stagger Lee.  Most versions including the most famous Lloyd Price version are traditional up tempo boogie woogie blues or if they are older folk or traditional blues such as the second most famous version of Mississippi John Hurt.  The version I am looking for sounds like somewhere in the 50s or 60s and is accompanied by a pipe organ.  It is really unique and I cannot find it anywhere after hearing it in rotation on WUSC.   I have tried calling the station and have not got in touch with anyone probably because it is a college radio station and they are on break, but am pretty sure none of the DJs would know the song anyway since it is in the general library and WUSC has a VAST library.

Anyway this is the closest version I have found, the one I am looking for has a singer and is a bit faster tempo:

Edit:  Interesting side note;  RP has the Taj Mahal version but I am not sure they have ever played it.

This?
Edit: hmmm...ok, no pipe organ there.

I know one thing, I am going to be a scholar for this song before I finally find it.  No exaggeration, I have listened to over 100 versions in the last week on the hunt!
{#Lol}

Check Wikipedia for versions. is ALLMUSIC.COM still around? they would list versions with links to listen

I read in a couple places that there are over 400 different versions.

Good luck, Sird.

Nope. Never heard it before. Doesn't really sound like a professional recording.

I don't know this genre very well at all. However, if I had to guess I'd say that the song was done in the early-mid 90s. It reminds me a bit of Sarah McLachlan. The recording sounds a bit muffled; maybe that's just due to the quality of the MP3 clip but it might be a result of a tight recording budget for someone trying to break into the biz.

If you can narrow down the date of recording, you might want to listen to various CD anthologies of that period. You might not hear your song but you might hear the singer doing another track...
