The reason why background and lifestyle matters much more to Democratic-Socialist or Socialist candidates than other philosophies or parties is because Socialism is the only philosophy that is asking or more accurately demanding through force and coercion to lower the lifestyles of a large segment of the population as an integral part of their platform ergo you cannot or at least should not ask something of your future constituents that you are not asking of yourself. Other ideologies and parties including the Democratic party may have the end result of lowering lifestyles, but it is not supposedly intentional and part of their platform, quite the contrary, they all espouse to improve all of our lives as unrealistic as that may be therefore their lifestyles extravagant as they may be are irrelevant to political discussion and is only in the realm of whether you find it personally distasteful or not. I have always maintained that if you are a Socialist candidate you should sleep on dirt floors because somewhere in the world others have to and you are proposing to increase that number.

She sure is. Had to be told what garbage disposal unit in a kitchen sink is and how it works. regardless ... the debate should be very interesting. It will be most interesting seeing what questions are asked and not asked of Bloomberg by the moderators.
If you lived in a cheap-ass NY apartment with ancient plumbing, the landlord probably wouldn't install one, either. Everyone has different experiences and if that's the worst thing you can come up with...
If you lived in any NYC area apartment (not just a cheap one), especially outside of Manhattan, you would never have had a garbage disposal; there would not be a dishwasher either. I lived in the NYC area for 32 years - I didn't know any apartment dweller who had a disposal or a dishwasher. Those sort of appliances were only in luxury apartments or townhouses, or homes in the suburbs.
Maybe if Bernie is chosen heâll pick Alexandria Octavia Cortez as a veep, the attraction to Latinas and enthusiastic folks could be great (Iâm still on Warrenâs team but we shall see : )
Well if it does come down to that, looks like I will be forced to hold my nose and vote for Trump. First time I will have voted for a major party candidate in 12 years. I hate that it has to come to this.
Why? Because she's a New York elite?
No because he is a Democratic Socialist ideologue and she agrees with him and I don't. It is that simple. Not all of us are identity obsessed. Identity is only important if it is relevant to exposing an untruth or hypocrisy in what type of image the candidate is trying to present themselves as. Being elected to the privileged class of American politics and reveling in the lifestyle excesses afforded is already a stark enough contrast to the Guevera styled image of fighting for the people her and Bernie want to portray for me, but it's all subjective. All of these people are fundamentally flawed including Trump of course, but the flaws of Trump are perpetually and ubiquitous enough to where anything on that subject is quite redundant. Now you can continue with your redundancy.

I've never seen or used one. I can has my elite decoder ring now?
I guess she picked the wrong 'elite' as well...
Ocasio-Cortez worked as a waitress and bartender in Manhattan up until recently to help keep her family financially afloat after her father died and her mom had to go back to work cleaning houses and driving a bus. Her mother had to leave the Bronx and move to Florida because she could no longer afford life there, she told Vogue.

Maybe a Bernie/Pete combo. But I'm still wondering about Amy/Pete.
Sanders won't be able to attract undecided moderates or ex-Republicans if he gets tarred with the socialist label - and you know he will be.
As someone who would vote for anyone on the Dem side at this point, I think the Bernie fears are real. I don't think he can win. I watched his town hall last night, and he literally would give away anything he thought people would vote for. He suggested that Medicare for all should include home health aides to keep people in their homes. As someone with 4 parents in the 80's, that's just a silly statement. He's going to build millions of houses to help with rents. He's going to provide free college. Problem is, we ran out of "rich people to pay for it" in the Medicare for all phase.
He cannot pick Pete. Amy maybe. If I were picking for him, I'd look at Kamela and Corey Booker to determine popularity. I think Corey would be a strong VP for a lot of Dems.
Bernie's "electable challenge" is far beyond troublesome.
