I listened to a journalist or pundit, who I believe is Indo-American, comment yesterday on NPR that India has a population of 1.3 Billion and medical infrastructure/services for 200,000.

The Indians continue to make all kinds of classic economic development mistakes such as price floors for agricultural commodities and other self-hurting subsidies.  Nevertheless, one of these days, if India can get organized, it could experience the torrid, real economic growth of the kind exhibited by China earlier this century.

What effective therapies would those be? If you are not famous like Trump, Giuliani or Chris Christie, you're just told to go home and sleep it off, don't let anyone in or out of the house for two weeks, and try not to kill your family and pets. Oh and if you can't breath, don't forget to go to the ER.

I think I may wear a mask for the rest of my life out in public...I don't have to worry when hair suddenly start to grow out of the top of my nose, or the fact that this tumor has pushed my bottom jaw over to where it is noticeably askew, nor the fact that my teeth, though still in good shape, are off colored from way too much coffee and too many years of abuse. I no longer have to hesitate to smile freely since I'm now smiling with my eyes and not my teeth.  Oh well, it's the little things in life, right?

Kenney’s COVID-19 strategy has made Alberta exceptional for all the wrong reasons

Pasted:

Alberta and Ontario now have the distinction of leading the country when it comes to active cases. And although Ontario is getting much more media attention, Alberta’s active case rate is more than double Ontario’s; as of Sunday 509 active cases per 100,000 compared to Ontario at 254.

Not only are Alberta’s case numbers the worst in Canada, they are higher than any U.S state.

Hmm....   I suppose if somebody wants to sicken and kill their fellow citizens, they should simply vote for a conservative party.....  Well, I am sure that there are many fine exceptions to that rule.

Hilarious!  Probably not in good taste but funny all the same.

Gee, and here I thought these two were as tight as could be.   Did Melinda object to Bill's approach to the climate crisis?  (I do.)

All those children, all these years as well as shared interests and NOW they get divorced!?!!

NYT — ungated article

Reaching ‘Herd Immunity’ Is Unlikely in the U.S., Experts Now Believe

Widely circulating coronavirus variants and persistent hesitancy about vaccines will keep the goal out of reach. The virus is here to stay, but vaccinating the most vulnerable may be enough to restore normalcy.

Excerpt:  Polls show that about 30 percent of the U.S. population is still reluctant to be vaccinated.

My comment.  Is there a bright side?  You guys have no idea how lucky you are to have experts like Dr. Fauci.

If so, you better tell Biden and the EPA ...

What you get when you post a picture without an explanation.

I'm gonna guess that this is a picture of funeral pyres in India.  So I'll restate my question ...

So is this a complaint about open burning and air pollution and the contribution to global warming from burning bodies in India ?

If so, you better tell Biden and the EPA ...

or you could explain your intentions with posting this picture to the uninformed clueless such as me.

Air pollution, yeah on a local scale, but more or less a drop in the bucket in terms of CO2 release and burning renewables is just faster recycling as opposed to fossil fuels which vastly increase the environmental carbon. Probably the biggest issue is deforestation. I really do not know how much India is doing these days with plantations. Should look it up.

IMO cremation is a better option than burial, particularly where there is high population density. Composting seems like it would be best but composting meat, particularly when it may contain pathogens could be tricky.
