Yep, me too back when George Kell and later, Ernie Harwell were the masters. As someone else mentioned the Tigers' radio announcers right now are a real challenge but once we get a major league team perhaps an upgrade there too?

YouTube has a game of the week, today it's Detroit @ Twins.
Cable cutters are starting to make an impact. Besides the YouTube game there is AppleTV Friday game of the week, Peacock Sunday morning game, etc.

I like the Giant's Miller, Cubs Sciambi, Guardian's Hamilton and despite all the criticisms I like John Sterling & Susan Waldman on the Yankees games.
The Tigers TV and radio people are the worst and no doubt the cheapest to employ, combine that with their play and it's just not listenable.

I can still get KNBR San Francisco on the AM in older vehicles with real antennas. Denver's announcer Drew Goodman was unbearable but after *looks it up* 17 years either I'm used to him or he's gotten better. Some nights I can get 570 AM with Dodgers games and that was fun 20 years ago because a friend was the studio host back then, she'd do weather and traffic updates between innings. But I haven't had an AM radio with any oomph in about 20 years. Digital tuners don't do it.

I've definitely gotten used to Mike Krukow's not-quite-right sense of humor — it took a while. Duane Kuiper's such a great homer he loses his mind when a great play is made and is clearly disgusted when they're sucking. Then Krukow will at least try to put a positive spin on it. But if the other team makes a great defensive play, Kuiper's quick to praise it. He was a 2B so he appreciates those middle infielders.

I like listening to Yankees games. I didn't know they weren't popular. One team I listened to a few weeks ago was amazing in how they weren't homers at all. It was like Joe Buck came to town and didn't care which team won. Bo-ring.

It's a great deal; I wish it would sync with the gameday animation because that's how I have to work it when the Giants are playing Denver... MLBtv blacks out the Rockies for me. Some people are blacked out for 3 or 4 teams though, so I guess it's okay. But yeah, listen to whatever whenever is cool.

Choose between the home team or visiting team's radio feed, in a lot of cases you have Spanish language too.
I listen to the radio feed of the Tigers' opponent when watching the games on TV, I've gotten good at synching up the two with the pop of the catcher's mitt.
Another bad one for the local Kitties but I enjoy baseball on the radio from all over the country.
I have some favorite announcers and teams so it's nice to have baseball without the panicked fan attitude.

Yup won 9 out of 12 but still no 1st baseman or a closer. And 2 games out of the wildcard spot. I’m holding onto the bumper of the bandwagon with my bloody fingers.

Cranked up the Sox game on the internet radio. Now all I need is for them to make a come from behind in the last 2 innings.

I do almost all of my baseball on the radio anymore.  I actually prefer it anymore.  It's still difficult hearing "The Guardians" instead of the Indians.  The graphics grate when I see them.

Oh well.  The old clock radio on the headboard is tuned to the channel all the time so it is what ever is on, is on.  If it wasn't, I might not hear another game and just let it fade away, not missed.

Sigh.

So it's the Dodgers in the NL vs Who-wants-it-more in the AL? Vegas has Houston as the top AL bet. I wonder if that factors in Trevor Story going to the Red Sox. Commish is gonna like having him.

Sanders Welcomes End of Major League Lockout But Slams ‘Baseball Oligarchs’

Posted on March 11, 2022 by

Jerri-Lynn here. So there will be baseball this season after all. Sanders calls out the owners – aka, baseball’s oligarchs – for causng the 99-day lockout that has delayed players from reporting for spring training for the 2022 season.

Opening Day has been pushed back from March 31 until April 7.

While Sanders (I-Vt.) said in a statement that he is “delighted to see an agreement reached so that the Major League Baseball season can start,” he slammed the “unacceptable behavior” of team owners, who he said “negotiated in bad faith for more than 100 days in a blatant attempt to break the players’ union.”

“We are dealing with an organization controlled by a number of billionaires who collectively are worth over $100 billion,” the democratic socialist and two-time U.S. presidential candidate noted. “It should be clear to all that these baseball oligarchs have shown that they are far more concerned about increasing their wealth and profits than in strengthening our national pastime.”

Bernie Sanders on MLB’s attempts to union bust.

Let’s also not forget that MLB oligarchs have created one of the most anti-union and anti-labor systems in contemporary sport — minor league baseball. https://t.co/fAXjGsXejV

— Derek Silva (@Derekcrim) March 10, 2022

Sanders excoriated the owners for eliminating their teams’ affiliation with more than 40 minor league ballclubs, “not only causing needless economic pain and suffering but also breaking the hearts of fans in small and mid-sized towns all over America.”

The senator took the “baseball oligarchs” to task for paying minor league players “totally inadequate wages,” for seeking to “eliminate the jobs of another 900 minor league players,” and for taking “billions of dollars in corporate welfare from taxpayers to build expensive stadiums” while charging “outrageously high prices for tickets that many working-class families cannot afford.”

“It would be wrong for Congress to simply celebrate today’s agreement and move on,” Sanders asserted. “We must prevent the greed of baseball’s oligarchs from destroying the game. The best way to do that is to end Major League Baseball’s antitrust exemption and I will be introducing legislation to do just that.”
