Herring are tough but not that tough. I met a guy who's Norwegian uncle had filed his front teeth so he could eat frozen herring. It was fine until he immigrated to the US and started eating ice cream and sweets. So  he replaced them with stainless steel.  Yeah, a 6 foot something old Viking with steel teeth...
