make loveThe original meaning was "to woo or court" but changed into a genteel expression for sexual intercourse. This makes for some unintentional humor when hearing old movie dialogue. Simlarly, the 1960 movie with Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand, Let's Make Love, was not a bedroom farce.

How about the word "gay" ?? It used to mean "happy". Now it is used to describe someone who is homosexual.

Being a "gay slut" used to mean that you had bad personal hygiene, but were a lot of fun to be around nevertheless. Ah, the 17th century!
