But ... since its about everything but the truth ... what if it was Ginsberg who passed ?  Would he have stayed away from that funeral ?

I believe that the answer to that is obvious.

So then say Ginsberg passes in the next 6 months.  Obama would have to stay away from her funeral to be consistent.

I dunno, sometimes its better to just do your damn job and shut up about it.  It can make things go much more smoothly.

That is a good point and goes to what I was saying about this being a logistical misstep imo.

Yes but those types of protestations would no doubt come from the hyper partisan usual suspects that independent thinkers have long ignored.  All I am saying is Obama has some PR and optic issues that he does not handle very well.

Dickish. I think that's the word used first, and yes it was.

Pick something of significance to get worked up about, like Guantanamo or WMDs, and it's worth discussing. Golf and a funeral? It's like people are just searching for something to bitch about, still.

Okay, UNCLE, it's a perfectly valid not asshole-ish question. Jesus. I think it's about as relevant as "Mr. President, do you plan to eat corn today?" because who cares? He's not going; the reason why doesn't have to be "I have something better to do."

I honestly thought, immediately, of two good reasons: 1: it's still a family funeral. If he did show up, you and others would be right to at least question "what the hell was he even doing there?" They didn't get along. Him crashing the funeral would have been seen as crass by {pick'em} et al so {deleted deleted}. At least Biden was in the senate and voted to confirm, so he's got some standing there.

and 2: The viewing at the Supreme Court, the public memorial... who would go to that? Nobody. By choosing to attend that instead, the president gave that enough gravitas that it might not have been a really sad little event.

My issue is not whether he attended the funeral or not; it is the bullshit dog and pony show of avoiding the question knowing full well that he did plan on going golfing.  They didn't want to answer the question because of the bad optics of this so they instead put out some story of Obama spending the weekend perusing Scalia case files, did a photo op with him carrying a bunch of briefs and then went golfing as planned.  Just attend the damn funeral and then go golfing or don't attend and give an honest answer why.  This is yet another reason why Trump is doing so well, people are just tired of bullshit so much so that they are willing to give their vote to someone who obviously has no idea what he is talking about half the time.

How about it might actually be the job of the prez to show up at these things ?  Could it be as simple as that ?  Obama just doesn't want to do his job ?  The office of POTUS is bigger than the individual occupying it.  That is unless you see yourself as King ...

Because Mitch McConnell is an assh@le ?

No worries.  There are clear signs that the repubs will give in.  In the same way they passed the last omnibus budget, blocking nothing giving Obama Carte Blanche for his last year.

Poseurs is all the repubs are.  They are Milli Vanilli.  That is why Trump is kicking ass.  We are tired of all the lip service, from everyone.
