Hi all, i am glad to have found Radio Paradise, and i love to listen to the mellow mix on my self build Squeezebox. And i would be even glader, when there weren't any political statements of any kinds here. This is completely offtopic here. Greetings from Oberhausen (probably Bottrop shortly)
Recht hast du, das wünschte ich mir auch !!! ( einen Politiker interessiert ja auch nicht, ob ich Pink Floyd oder Grateful Dead lieber höre),
Diese Propaganda ist widerlich !!

Brief announcement from the new editor-in-chief of the Wall Street Journal:
The media industry had morphed âbeyond recognitionâ and The Journal needed to adapt, or be left behind. âWe donât want to be the German car industry of news publishing,â she joked to the hundreds of staff members listening.
On the one hand, of course, she's absolutely right when she disses the German auto industry. For my part, I have been displeased for years that this bloated juggernaut of incapacity, which cannot survive on its own, is repeatedly being breathed on with tax money. I would much rather see the whole mess go bankrupt, in an orderly or disorderly fashion.
Maybe then someone in this country will discover that you can also earn money by not destroying the planet.
But the fact that this diss comes from the editorial staff of the Wall Street Journal, of all places, who have completely removed themselves from the discourse with their paywall bullshit, and is quoted in the New York Times, which no one reads anymore either because you can't read it without a subscription, is not without a certain irony.
You all get on with it. Nicely renting out properties on the Titanic, you special experts. In any case, I'm not going to throw a life preserver.
not quite sure what you are referring to here. The German car industry generated all-time record revenue in 2022. But kind of nice of you to want to rip out the guts of the German economy. I get the environmental thing. But maybe you might have something constructive to replace it with?
Like most western nations the biggest threat to the German economy is its aging population. Have you got any solutions to that too, while you are at it?

Yes.
Frankly, it is a bit of a mystery. Common elements seem to include a disaffected portion of the population that has developed a profound distrust of their government and believe they are being cheated out of their rightful place in the societal hierarchy and concomitantly being deprived of their just deserts. They long for some version of the good olâ days.
The appeal of propaganda knows no bounds. For some.

It is rather inexplicable, yet it repeats itself.

Prosecutors said the suspects also believe Germany is ruled by a so-called âdeep state.â
Just another tale of patriots trying to Drain the Swamp.

The parallels to all the other proto-fascists worldwide are glaring (point of reference: one of the German-based pro-Russian trolls here once told me in a backchat he thought a monarchy would be a much better idea than the current democracy). He's obviously not alone. Trump is obviously gunning for something similar in the States. Ergo so are all his supporters, who still support him despite all the evidence of his anti-democratic tendencies. Then you also have guys like Musk and Thiel and the clique of mega-rich silicon valley libertarians who believe that democracy is destined to fail, so seem quite content to help along the process by buying out social media platforms, for instance. Add to them the nationalist leaders like Orban, Putin, etc. and their supporters, who try to lead by whipping up xenophobic sentiment and fanning fear of minorities like gays, muslims and trans-gender individual, all the while sabotaging genuine political solutions such as the EU, etc... the list goes on.
I mean, what do these guys think they are plugging for? Some kind of über-efficient German Nazi machine where everyone is running around with plaits in their hair and sporting ruddy complexions, eating copious wurst and sauerkraut and all dissension and social problems will have been conveniently "nullified"? I mean, REALLY? It wasn't even like that in Nazi Germany, which is about as close as you are ever going to get between the will of the people and the will of the Führer. There isn't a single country today that comes even close to the historical conditions that led to the rise of Nazi Germany. So, even under their own pitiful terms, any exercise in fascism is doomed to failure. Even if they did manage to take power, they'll be ripping off each other's heads at short notice.
No, at best what you are going to get is something like North Korea, Iran or the Soviet Union, without the benefit of high oil exports and flashy western goods to keep things afloat. It's going to be kleptocracy, rule-by-fear and totalitarianism and its going to be totally inefficient, gloomy as hell and dire.
And that's what it's going to be like if you are on the right side of the powers that be. For the rest, it's going to be sheer hell.
And at worst, it's just going to be sheer hell for everyone.
