I have come to the decision that a year after having covid, my sense of taste hasn't returned to normal. It doesn't matter whether I buy good coffee or old stale junk, it all tastes the same. Vaguely bitter, not much aroma. If I put sugar or cream in, I do taste that. I was thinking our coffeemaker had somehow started to brew differently, like too hot? Too cold? etc. but really, it's not changed. Damn. I can't think of anything else that I can't taste. Chocolate is actually stronger tasting now. Probably a good thing; I eat less of it (not a crazy chocolate fiend anyway). I had a dark chocolate bite yesterday and it wasn't even pleasant. Just strong.
So that's weird.
Congratulations. You accomplished the same loss of smell and taste experienced by tobacco smokers.

I don't know if I have had the 'vid, but I used to have this thing where coffee often had a metallic taste to it - even decent espresso if not made right. Well, since the first half of 2020, that doesn't seem to be the case. So maybe I got lucky.

you may have a point there i enjoy hanging out with new and exciting people except that that time i joined up with a band of hobo gypsies in town i woke up strange place, bare and my hard drive was wiped caused me to go through a guarded phase, but i've since recovered thus coffee first
I spent a few nights hanging out with an indigenous street person one summer. It was an eye opening experience. There was a whole culture occupying the same space as the rest of us, like an alternate universe and I had just popped through the portal. I would have eventually got the crap beat out of me if I had stayed.
Let's grab a cup and I'll tell you more.
ok, but i've flipped stash rotation to a freekin' beautiful lightroast

Coffee before manbird. Just the way of the world.
Edit: Speaking of - currently enjoying the heck out of a local roast or arabica. And we have fresh yogurt with honey, mango and granola for a side dish.

I’m not averse to little twisty knobs and buttons. (Once, after Bob Moog introduced a new synth that was mostly digital. I asked him “where are all the knobs?” To shame him for staring at my wife’s legs through his talk) but, my wife hates tech, and if we get something too tech I’ll be the one making every cup.
i'm already there
to be fair i have it down with the rig and beans that we have
