I remember the publicity tour they did with that. It was mounted to the top of a 747 and flown around the country. My dad took me out of school for the day to go look at it.

It was a Friday. At the time I was managing the fueling part of a rest plaza on the Ohio Turnpike, and as a BP employee. I got a call from HQ advising me that I was to raise prices across the board by 10¢ per gallon on Saturday morning and another 10¢ on Sunday morning. Back in that time, 10¢ per was a big deal. We were to spread it out over two days to soften the shock.
The Valdez basically hadn't even come to a stop yet and the prices were being jacked up before any real impact was known. It was a turning point in my life regarding / revealing / proving how big oil will exploit any opportunity to make money. At the time, I already had about 50,000 gallons in the ground. Y'all can do the math ...
