"A Perfect Spy" was absolutely amazing, perhaps in part because it used so much of Cornwell's early life and dealings with his shady, larger-than-life father. The paperback copy I bought in '87 had a blurb from Joseph Roth calling it "the English novel since the war."
His works weren't always great. The adaptation of "The Night Manager" with Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie has great pace and pitch but the novel was pretty wooden at times. But "The Spy Who Came in From The Cold" has an ending that punches you in the gut. An amazing achievement for someone just starting out as a novelist.
I was never a fan but huge respect for getting the Song of the Year songwriting grammy (first time a woman's gotten it w/o being a collaboration) and for hitting the charts for the first time in her late 40s.
Actually saw her along with Randy Travis years ago here in San Antonio...My wife is a bit of a cowgirl at heart. K.T. sang her heart out. RIP.

RIP John Lennon. 40 years gone. (How can it have been that long ago?)
I was never a huge Beatles fan, but I can tell you where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news... playing "street hockey" in the driveway with my neighbor Billy. Amazing it's been 40 years.
I was watching Monday Night Football when Cosell announced it.

I was in the Student Union building at college and we all had a jam session of all the tunes.
Damn it’s going to be my 45th high school reunion this year. And I haven’t gone to one yet.
And in 3 hours I got to go to a wake for my buddies dad.
