That's what made the whole story so absurd. The guy has done a good amount of legitimately helpful stuff, so why the need to 'embellish' it? Apparently the pivotal elements of his story are not, shall we say, accurate.

His former associate John Krakauer (sp?) seemed pretty decent about it, acknowledging the good he has done while not condoning his fabrications.

Giant Idaho Wolves Hunt, Kill In Packs Of Up To 20
4-16-11

The Canadian Gray Wolf runs in packs of up to twenty wolves. For every one animal they kill to eat, these Canadian wolves kill about three more just for the fun of it. The biologists call it "sport-reflex killing" or "lustful killing". The Canadian Gray Wolf is a killing machine.

These are federal wolves, as it was the federal government who introduced them into Idaho over our objections. They told the state of Idaho that the wolves would be considered recovered when we had a total of 100 wolves in Idaho. Now we have between 800 and 2,000 wolves and the situation is out of control.
Idaho's wolf emergency is a state issue. And in this situation, the state of Idaho has both a duty and the authority to protect its people and their property. House Bill 343 lays out the facts, the argument and the authority to do so. - Idaho Rep Phil Hart

I own my own happiness, it is not dependent upon another's version of history, life or principles.

No, I did not read that book.

Like Jade, I think maybe the inspiration and joy might have a life of their own, indpendent of the apparent facts. But those facts are sad, indeed. I should Google up a link but too lazy, but it does appear that Mortinson made up a good share of his tale. A shame.

The death of a little kitten today, who could no longer move its limbs...or even feed itself......dredged up the same sadness I felt for my dearest brother, who had also lost the use of his body...and could hardly move.

There is much comfort in knowing they have been set free, and their bodies are whole and perfect again, and their spirits soar anywhere they want to go.
But......oh my goodness. My heart is in my throat right now. And I miss Tony all over again......{#Cry}

I could tell many stories of the things that trigger my sense of loss for my brother (mother and father too), but I'll just send this instead.
