So sad. A protest song by definition ought not be politically correct. If the potential to offend or be politically incorrect was the reason for ending this tradition, then I am offended by the attempt to moderate and tone down the sometimes grit that once was one of the hallmarks of RP.
I suppose all things change. But this was one small tradition that always brought a tear to my eyes, recalling the days when it was first sung and not too often played on commercial radio. Makes me serisouly consider withdrawing my longstanding financial support and send those pennies to another cause. It was a nice long run.
11 months ago IMArlo wrote in the song comments "Bill just mentioned that they might put this song away any year now, permanently, due to its political incorrectness. My PI radar might be out of tune. What does he refer to?", to which someone responded that it was Arlo's use of the word "faggot" (as meaning something other than a bundle of sticks).
Hmmm... I'd say the overall message of the song as an anti-war ballad is stronger than a single use of a now inappropriate word. But I've always been overly sensitive to bombing women and children.
Yeah, I believe meaning needs to consider context and the context of the draft during a lousy war is pretty incorrect.

I was able to find it under artists/arlo, so it’s still on the list. Hoping to hear it today.

Drats! I was looking around for it as well. If music is memories with a melody, then this song goes out to Leonard Crippen, where ever you are! I vote to bring it back. Just my 2 cents. Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving!
Hearing Alice's Restaurant on RP has been part of my T-Day tradition for years now so I'm a little sad if it's been discontinued. I know it's not really a big deal in the scheme of things, but yeah.
