It's funny, I just had a caller from Detroit who said 'Happy Paczki Day!' to me.

from wiki;
 Polish immigrants and residents of Hamtramck and southeastern Michigan celebrate Tłusty Czwartek (Fat Thursday), known locally as Pączki Day<26>> by lining up at the city's numerous Polish bakeries to purchase pączki. On Pączki Day, several local bars host parties with live entertainment and free pączki.

Paczki Day is big here in MI, Hamtramck is a town surrounded by Detroit and in the early 1900's waves of Polish people moved in.  It is the largest Polish community in the USA, maybe second to Chicago.
Packis are a big deal here, every year the TV news crews go to Hamtramck and report on the bakeries getting them ready.
Every grocery store here has big displays of boxes. A former co-worker from  out of state who is Polish said he never heard of packis until he moved to MI.
I don't know if it's still there but we used to go to The Turtle Soup Inn in Hamtramck not for packis but for the turtle soup and ribs, gotta love the melting pot

Its a big deal here,

Where to get your favorite Polish Paczki in Cleveland

Parma, Ohio (Drew Carey anyone ?), known for its large and rooted Polish and Eastern European population was named Pączki capital of Ohio. The traditional Polish pastry known as Pączki (pronounced POONCH-KEY) is sought after by many people looking to get fattened up on sweets before the Lenten season. A typical Pączki usually contains 400 to 500 calories and 25 grams of fat but those who want the indulgence before a month of fasting, the sugary, and delectable pastries are a right of passage, and frankly, well-worth the extra sweetness.

Apparently "pączek" can be the spelling for the singular.  Learn something every day.

Has pretty much no meaning to me.  I'm not Catholic (tho I was born in a Catholic hospital and I know those nuns cursed me with the Catholic guilt complex.)  I've never been to NO and am not the least bit Cajun.

I do however, love P's jambalaya.
