Years ago I worked in a scrap yard and I often 'worked the scales', bought whatever people would bring in. (You wouldn't believe the weird stuff we got: Stainless steel from cremated bodies, trombones, cymbals, etc. Every week or so some drunks would haul out a few boxes of stinking filthy burnt copper wire with most of the insulation still on it. They were too lazy to strip the plastic off it so they tried to burn it off and I'd send them packing. (if they had cleaned it properly, they would have gotten top dollar. It was a really great job, super toxic though, and I wish I had put more ambition into it. I've never had so much fun operating giant toys in my life and I learned a lot about metals but I never worked my way up to magnet crane operator or car shredder.
