1972 US reissue.  Just arrived from SFW's buddy up in Powell !

1969 US Promo  Long time on my want list.  A vinyl only release other than one obscure CD version made a few years ago.

Yep.  2017 MOFI.  Amazing they got this together at all considering how strung out everyone was during the sessions.

1973 US 1st  Trying to keep it moving and not play any music that is hard on the kitty as he check's out.

There is an ongoing discussion about near end distortion on vinyl over at discogs which has caused me to do some investigating.  This is the first album I picked to analyse.  That and I finally pulled the trigger and got the preamp I've been wanting for the past 4 years.  It has been discontinued and it was a now or never kinda thing.  My present one has been faithfully chugging away for 5 years always powered on, but sooner or later its gonna die.  I'm breaking it in and figuring out settings.  Playing with 24 bit 192 khz rips vs my old 16 bit 48 khz standard.  It took me a lot of work just to get it to finally identify my XP computer, but I did.  Fortunately the main driver goes back enough to work with XP.

DSOTM is one of those calibration albums I use when things need fixed. I have the 1992 Shine On Box CD set for comparing SQ.   Another one I use is Their Satanic Majesties Request from The Stones Mono Box Set.  IIRC, you have the CD version. 

So I have found that there is some brick walling resembling clipping, without actual clipping.   I  just broke out my 1975 3rd USA press to run it through and see if I would get the same thing happening as with the new 2016.  It did, so I had to lower the recording levels and everything seems to be as it should.  Whew, I was really starting to get worried that it was not going to work.  I've played Side 1 eight times now between the two and Side 2 has another 4 to go at least between the two.  Then the editing and some serious headphone listening.  I've already found what I thought were clicks from the vinyl that are in the master itself.  They exist on the 1975 copy and the 2016, too. I'll have to check out the CD along the way.

This will be my weekend project.  I want to hear the banjo's, too.

Ok, so I said I was done buying Floyd vinyl.  I misspoke.  It was in front of me at WalMart and had two price stickers on it   The one on the front was right @ $28.97.  The one on the back was for LZ IV @ $ 21.97.  Gotta love their self checkout.      It's been sitting, waiting for 5 months. Damn this is nice.

2014 EU press.  

2018 EU  2 X 12"  A guilty pleasure.  More the old stuff than the later disco stuff, still not a bad body of work.

2017 USA pressing  2 X 12"  This is the go to pressing of this particular compilation.  It is so good that even if you have any Hendrix already, this is worth adding to your collection.  As good as vinyl gets.  It also has the hard to find song Stone Free which is why I got it. It was really only available in the old Smash Hits compilation.  This blows that right out of the water.  Dirt cheap at under $25
