So that still leaves 51% with "no intention of doing so" in your (post hoc qualified) "local reality." And it should stay stuck on 49%...

There are many reasons eligible people may not be vaccinated, including, in some areas, lingering issues of short supply, limited access to vaccination sites and confusing procedures for booking appointments. Some people are hesitant or unwilling to get a shot.

The New York Times recently analyzed vaccine records and voter records in every county in the United States and found that both willingness to receive a coronavirus vaccine and actual vaccination rates were lower, on average, in counties where a majority of residents voted to re-elect former President Donald J. Trump in 2020.

Speed isn’t the only priority for the country’s vaccination campaign. The Biden administration has also committed to distributing shots equitably to the communities most affected by the pandemic.

Yet more than five months into the rollout, the most socially vulnerable counties in the U.S. have a lower vaccination rate on average than the nation’s least vulnerable. The majority of the most disadvantaged counties with the fewest fully vaccinated people are in the South, while the most vaccinated, least vulnerable counties are in the Midwest and Northeast.

Kudos to you for getting in a mention of that famous murdering sumbitch Trump who used Covid as his weapon of choice ...

I have often said that reality is a local event.  The latest Ohio numbers have 49% of our population of 11 million having had at least one round of vaccine.

https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/w...

Certainly there are other places that are not doing as well as Ohio, but we are doing very well with vaccinations here.  The City of Cleveland (Cuyahoga County) just closed a vac center centrally located downtown at CSU's basketball arena after a 3 month run doing up to 6,000 per day, on a walk in basis.  Uber does provide free rides to get vaccinated is my understanding, too.

And behold this picture I took at my local Walmart earlier today at 3 pm EDT.

IMG_20210614_150941

It doesn't get any easier, now does it ?  So at least around here, I will repeat,

I feel that if one has not been vaccinated by now, they have no intention of doing so with the widespread availability of vaccines.

So ... I no longer see the need to protect the unvaccinated from my vaccinated self.  At this point in time in this area, there is no reason for not being vaccinated unless you deliberately choose not to do so.

If I lived somewhere else with different circumstances, I would adjust and act accordingly.

Our friend was released from the hospital today and is back home with us.  One day in ICU, then step down and then out.

So here we are.  Living with someone who has active CV.  The release instructions were vague.  Nothing about those he is living with.  I presume that whoever was in charge knows that we have been properly vaccinated.  As noted below, I seem to have had some sort of reaction to the CV earlier in the day that he was transported to the ICU.  Started taking some Bactrim I have laying around for upper respiratory congestion.  Have an open refillable script for it.  Already better.

Having checked with various medical professionals that we know, including my onc and a personal friend of the wife who is currently an MD who specializes in Hospice care, since we have been vaccinated we are not really at any great risk of getting a bad case of it or passing it along to anyone else who has been properly vaccinated.  The danger lies in passing it on to the unvaccinated and that is possibly for 5 days following infection.  But even that is just a guess.   I have a regular shot at my onc's on Wed and my instructions are to come on in and get it unless I come down with a full blown infection.  Jr, who is not vaccinated, is going into a 10 to 14 day isolation.

I guess that I / we have entered a new stage where we'll be constantly exposed to unvaccinated people with active CV over and over again.  Have a reaction of some sort, recover, get reinfected, recover, and so on and so forth.  Indefinitely.

There is a philosophical question going forward about dealing with the unvaccinated.  I feel that if one has not been vaccinated by now, they have no intention of doing so with the widespread availability of vaccines.  I feel that I no longer have an obligation to protect the unvaccinated from myself going forward.  We all have to make choices.  I went with the program and got vaccinated.  Financially I cannot stay home and lose income just to protect the unvaccinated.  They aren't staying home, so why should I ?

I am sure that I will get flamed here for even thinking this thought, but ain't no one paying me to stay home.  Something has to give.  This fear and paranoia cannot continue.

Sorry to hear.
It's worth reminding people that, although hand washing is a good thing, it isn't how the Rona is spread - it's airborne. So the Purell obsession isn't really related to controlling this. Please continue to wear a mask and keep your distance. It's getting better (can't get much worse) and stopping the common sense precautions that would be applicable to any widespread community-acquired respiratory infection is just begging for us to have this longer.

That is: if you're not being cautious, you're the reason this is taking so long.

Now it is the process of contact tracing to find out where he got it.  Not from either one of us.  Bonus is that we had Jr over for dinner the night before and he has not been vaccinated.

Three possible opportunities for infection in the past week.  That and FWIW, proof enough for me that multiple reinfections happen, even with vaccination.  I did make the observation earlier in the evening that I somehow felt odd at work today (yesterday), like I was phoning it in, which I never do regardless.

He had it twice already and was vaccinated as well.

Yes, that is a bit concerning.  I think he had Pfizer, after having already having two previous episodes, one which included hospitalization.

I will confirm which vaccine he had when we get a little bit farther along.  I'm going to call the hospital later and try and find out which strain he has, provided I can get around HIPAA ...

He currently lives down your way just outside of Athens.

Update:  Strain unknown.  Not going into work tomorrow.  Strip his bed, laundry, laundry, laundry and Lysol bomb the place.  Fortunately I scored a 3 pack of real Lysol about a month ago.

:sigh:

Thanks.

I'm not really worried about myself.  It is work.  I cannot social distance.  I get within a foot face to face and physically touch people.

I'm sitting out today, mostly because of the rough night and the uncertainty of this morning.  Depending on how this plays out I do have tentative plans to go in tomorrow.  I have already advised work of my circumstances.  We have all been fully vaccinated with Moderna since March 14.
