Is RP's bass EQ'd up a touch???

I've noticed this with the "Mellow or Classic Mix" on many of the newer recordings the bass is bit over done, and a bit too heavy by a couple of db's, but not so much with earlier <1990 recordings, is it maybe just the "Loudness Wars" showing up too much compression being used?
