There was some issues last week,  since a lot of the audio is routed via Dallas.    Not aware of any issues at the moment,  will keep an eye on it.
If other Sonos  services are playing okay.   Then it's likely an issue on our end.   But if the others behave similarly,  could try power cycling the Sonos and your  router/modem.

Deleted the service and reloaded, seems to be the same with different bit rates and streams.  TuneIn and SonosRadio are my backup plan

Thoughts?
Thanks

Regarding the chrome popup.  I don't think it has anything to do with us.
There is more info here.   The short version is they've seen the username/password combo  in a data breach somewhere.   They'll show that for any site that has  the same combination stored.

Could not even log on for about 10 minutes.  Only way back on was hitting "refresh this window" button on legacy site after many, many attempts.

New site is acting funny, too.

This is just sitting and spinning as of this post.

Thanks.  I can now log in the regular way.  I still get the pop up though.  I'll look at the link and see if I need to do anything further.

My system is low on resources so I usually play using one of RP's stream links on vlc. But today I only have sound when I use the webplayer.  Is it just me (my VLC got a update yesterday) or a general problem?

Not the forum for this but simply wanted to signal my strong support for these arguments.

I always stick to the 'main stream'.   I want to be exposed to music that I do not know and in many cases do not particularly enjoy.

Kinda sad really, that for so many people consuming music is not much more than self-medication.  Music can be so much more.

There is labeling of acts here, which is how we have a "world" mix. I posted a feature request hoping for even more of that kind of curation, because perhaps RP would see the value in it the way the music industry as a whole won't or can't.

An act's diversity isn't a "selling point", it's a listening point. How much money an act makes isn't necessarily a reflection of its quality; there are a lot of other factors that go into whether an act is financially successful. Based on the preponderance of white male acts in the US music industry, being white and male is one of them (unless you make the case that white men are naturally more talented, which isn't at all what you're saying). By clearing out the ubiquitous, we leave room for more new acts in our sphere. To me, there's nothing joyless at all about hearing a new voice.

To be clear, this feature request isn't about changing any of the existing mixes, but rather to add a new one, even as an experiment, even for a short time. Anyone who didn't like it would be free to ignore it.

World music is a label that predates RP and it's not in your list of examples. I agree that it could be problematic but it's a pretty benign label, to me.

An act's diversity might be a listening point, but how do you find out about it? If the band tells you, to me that's a bad sign that they're going to market music to me. If you go seeking out bands based on whether they tick certain gender/race boxes, that doesn't seem to be a good thing.

Clearing out the ubiquitous... is what RP does. The overplayed overhyped junk that sent us all seeking refuge in the first place is why we landed here. They just don't apply more filters than "we like it," with "we" being Bill and Rebecca.

I would posit that any further attempt to curate the playlist (or create a new one) would produce a more sterile experience. But then that's why I rarely venture into the "mixes" and stick with the main stream.

Please don't reply to this: If you want to continue the conversation, please find (there are probably a dozen suitable ones)
or create a thread for it... this one gives Bill an electric jolt every time someone posts to it ;-)

I've noticed lately (not on RP but in general) that there are an awful lot of acts that have only cis white men in them. Even bands that have been going on for decades and have a long list of prior members are sometimes 100% cis white men. They're never described as such: a band's website or Wikipedia never describes a band as "all white" or "all male" the way it's called out when the act is "women" or "cross-cultural". 100% cis white male bands are the default — everyone else is "other".

It would be interesting to curate a mix where every track must include at least one non-dominant human: woman, BIPOC, trans or nonbinary. I'd love to hear what that sounds like.

It sounds a little bit as though you're dragging your issues with the music industry as a whole into RadioParadise. There's not any labeling of acts here, at least by the metrics you provided.

As far as describing a band of straight white men as "a band of straight white men" you're right that they're never described as all white or all male ...that's like calling water "wet." It's such a dominant trait that the outliers become points of interest, so casually referring to a band as all female, well that's still rare enough to be worth noting, but even that turns into a selling point or a negative, so it shouldn't be used. Bad Brains were always described as a black hardcore band... back in the 80s, anyway. I don't know of any self-respecting artist these days who would list any of your metrics as a selling point. If word gets out, I suppose, but I'm not interested in any band *because* they're ...whatever.  So curating a playlist would require the sort of sleuthing that takes the joy out of just hearing music for what it is.

hzs then said: "To be clear, this feature request isn't about changing any of the existing mixes, but rather to add a new one, even as an experiment, even for a short time. Anyone who didn't like it would be free to ignore it."

I have a solution.  Create a stream consisting entirley of bands of white men .  Let's call it The Average White Band stream.

Fixed it fr you.

It's also possible to get a "mellow mix" on Spotify, but we all know there's no comparison between Spotify and RP. That's why we're here.
