Funny, that sounds just like, uhm, political correctness.
Political correctness (adjectivally: politically correct; commonly abbreviated PC) is a term used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society.
Or whitewashing.

I have skimmed it and will read it later, but I think it provides a really interesting perspective of the country today.

I suspect the report offers insights into why the Right is so angry, and how someone like Donald Trump can harness those frustrations into a movement.  I don't think Trump has the intellect to build a movement, but he is keenly aware of positive feedback, and to his credit somehow felt his way to the Whitehouse by sensing the anger and giving it back with more volume.   My quick review suggests that the Right's last comment on the "problems" with America under Trump have been argued within the doc.

Amateur hour revisionism...
The White House on Monday released the report of the presidential 1776 Commission, a sweeping attack on liberal thought and activism that calls for a “patriotic education,” defends America’s founding against charges that it was tainted by slavery and likens progressivism to fascism.

President Trump formed the 18-member commission — which includes no professional historians but a number of conservative activists, politicians and intellectuals — in the heat of his re-election campaign in September, as he cast himself as a defender of traditional American heritage against “radical” liberals. Not previously known for his interest in American history or education, Mr. Trump insisted that the nation’s schools had been infiltrated by anti-American thought and required a new “pro-American” curriculum.
The librul academia!

The Democratic party is only united at the moment because of Trump. As soon as that threat has waned/disappeared it will need a Herculean effort to keep the party together.

The Republicans have been struggling for a while now to find a viable platform/voice. Remember how unwilling they were to support Trump back in 2016 and only grudgingly came over when they saw him win votes? In the end they made their Faustian pact with him out of political expediency.

Trouble is, personality politics bears the seeds of its own downfall, and that is playing out before our eyes right now. The demographics of the US have changed. There are many grave issues confronting the nation. There is plenty there for a number of different party platforms and I have no doubt that these will spring up to fill the vacuum.

The only real threat of totalitarian rule to the US right now is the wild mob spitting on the rule of law.

Wait, so the party that spent 8 years stonewalling Obama, and 4 years under trump ramming through anything that fit their agenda, then just sponsored a riot/insurrection to overthrow the will of the people is willing to share power and compromise? Good to know.

Kurt,

There are some facts that you need to accept and confirm before anything you say holds even the slightest merit.  They include:

- There is no evidence that the election in November was stolen. NOTHING has been proven, anywhere.  If it has, tell us where.
- Trump was wrong to call state legislatures and asking them to "find" votes, in effect attempting to override the will of the voters.
- Trump was wrong to suggest anything violent towards the US Congress as they counted the votes on Wednesday, and is partially responsible for what happened at the Capital.
- Trump should have reacted to the siege at the capital and sent in the National Guard.  The #2 and #3 heads of our government were under attack, and he did nothing.

"They all hate us" and "they're out to get us" doesn't work anymore.  Trump's unwillingness to accept defeat by blaming others is now killing people and putting additional lives at risk.  These people aren't patriots, they're terrorists.  Legacy media, Dems, socialism, Russia, China....all make for nice conspiracy theories, but aren't the issue right now:  Trump is.

Do you agree with the bullet points above?

That’s extrapolating a bit too far. The issue, to me, is whether the USA is well-served by the GOP and its subservience to Trump. Remember, it posted no platform for this swing at the Presidency. All it had - all it had - was the cult of personality. And a crappy, reprehensible personality at that. Seriously - he put his daughter and son-in-law in official positions at the White House? There’s no way to spin that as appropriate. And that’s just one thing that the GOP supported.

I’ll vote against that any day.

Yeah, I thought better of setting you up for that one, and my edit was still accurate. I suppose you could then say it's turtles all the way down and the people who live around me are misguided as well.

But, looking at what the GOP stands for (no platform, just the party of Trump), I know I'm correct. I've watched him, not his spin, and he's an embarrassment that's being contained by a group of buffers. Watching him talk never fails to disappoint. That's not the media fooling me.
