Nothing wrong with a well done straight up cover. Nothing great but certainly not horrible. Probably album filler, as were some of the Beatles songs. Relax, enjoy, it's only a rock song. It could have been Rebeca Black.

If you insist on making a cover, at least make the song your own. Give us a REASON for covering the song! Do you have an alternate approach that reveals the song in an interesting new light? Roseanne Cash's cover is just a total ripoff of the Beatles version -- identical in every respect except for the quality. A waste of recording tape, this song needs to be thrown into the vast wasteland of mediocrity. Life too short for mediocre music. Get rid of it.

Alas, a rare Beatles cover that neither merely imitates it nor annihilates it. I like the backward guitar at the beginning and end to pay tribute to the backward guitar solo of the original, while the solo in this version is "straight-forward" (pardon the pun). Nice tribute overall. Not sure why I gave it such a harsh review before. Guess I was just tired of hearing Beatles tributes all over the radio waves at that time and didn't realize it was because of the "I Am Sam" soundtrack.

Over 15 years ago when I lived in Nashville there were famous and not so famous musicians everywhere. For the most part I didn't care. But I always kept an eye out for Roseanne Cash. There's something special about her. I like her vocal presence; and I can't really put my finger on what else it is that makes her music so attractive to me. I thought I would like her as well but we never met. I gave up waiting and moved further south. Wouldn't mind hearing a bit more of her own work.

Many modern artists have produced musically pointless covers simply because they don't have any decent original material - they cash in on the talent of others. But we shouldn't tar them all with the one brush. This one by Roseanne Cash is good, and some are classics. Them (early Van Morrison) produced at least two - check out 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue' and 'I Put A Spell On You'.

Exactly. The Beatles might be an easy mark for covers because the writing is SO good, and many of their songs are recognizable, yet not overplayed. I AM SAM was probably the straw that broke the camels back.

I bought Rosanne\'s first album when it came out in 1979. Her voice sounds just as powerful and sweet as it did back then.

I\'m so sick of this sudden and massive influx of cheesy Beatles remakes that have poured forth lately that I\'m about ready to pull my hair out. I have yet to hear one that improves on the original. A tall task, to be sure; and maybe that\'s why it\'s a task that should not be undertaken.

There just aren\'t too many real good songwriters around, but a whole lot of performing artists on the other hand! Before the Beatles, artists like Frank Sinatra and Elvis, never wrote their own songs. Singing and writing songs where two different things. Since then the need for original material has grown, because their are much more recording/performing artists. But the difference is that songs are mostly already recorded by the songwriters themselves.

So mike are you saying that nobody should do Beethoven\'s 5th Symphony, since it\'s a classic, and they\'re not Beethoven? Or to put it in more contemporary terms, Aaron Copeland? I\'m fairly certain that recordings exist of him performing his music. I\'m not sure what Rosanne adds to the original, but I\'m all for covers. The beatles themselves covered Roll Over Beethoven, which by that time must have been a classic. Kevin

I agree, "classics" aren't sacred, as far as I'm concerned. I enjoy hearing other musician's interpretations of songs written by "the old masters". In many cases they aren't as good as the originals, but it's nice to hear fresh interpretations, and it exposes the younger audience to music they may not have heard before.
