Interessante, non lo conoscevo ... mi piace molto le sonorità.
Wow, just opened RP, and got this song when I'm here, in Israel, 30 days to the attack and the sad war :( Thanks for that... I didn't know the song, great one!

I love this song. I remember playing this in 1986/1987, when I first got my driver's license, driving my aged, non-practicing-Jewish-grandmother to "Price-Club" (now Costco). Other than the word "Jerusalem", I didn't make much of the lyrics, having been raised 'non-denominational'.
I noticed that my grandmother was listening intently. She then started lip-syncing the lyrics. She was fascinated by the fact that an African singer was reciting Hebrew prayers. I think she even liked it.

Similar.  I was raised Jewish and know those prayers, drilled into me in preparation for my bar mitzvah in 1962.

EXCELLENT!  ...and, I am not usually a reggae fan.  Thanx RP!

RP listeners are a tough crowd for reggae - many other reggae numbers are low-rated. I've been a reggae fan for decades so it's fine by me, and the message is spot on, so it's 7 from the toe-tappin' Nottingham jury.

Maybe the low rating comes from overplaying this music back in the day. I am also an old fan, and love alpha blondy!

I like the Strummer & Mescaleros to Alpha Blondy segue.  I do like AB a fair bit and have been listening to this album since the late '80's — it's a good antidote for the really aggressive and nasty hip-hop and rap that floats around out there.
Good song for doing work at home. Nice and mellow, steady...

Get it: the previous song faded away into a reggae, and was from Blondie.

(And by the way: what about some Ennio Morricone as a follow up? The Dollar Trilogy, I mean.)

Nice knee-jerk reaction there, there's no hate in this song or from Alpha Blondy in general.  It's all about acceptance and learning to live with differences.

I've been a big fan of Alpha Blondy for 2 decades. One interesting fact about this album is that his backing band on this whole album, Jerusalem, was The Wailers. You can totally hear their musical stamp on this title track, as well as the rest of the album. If you wanted a place to start with Alpha Blondy, this album is a great one.
Truly don't understand the low rating on this one??? 8

After all these years, it's getting pretty hard to do something original with the reggae.

I think these guys did that, and very well.

big ups for learning hebrew to sing this song. his pronunciation is really good, plus it doesn't hurt that he keeps saying "yisrael hayakira lee".  My daughter's name is yakira. I will have to buy this album just for that.

Exactly my thoughts, my friend. Haven't heard this in maybe 15 years. It reminds me of several evenings in my appartment back when I was a student. Girls, weed, time to waste... *sigh*

I was surprised by the negative comments about this song; to me, it\'s simply a fine raggae song. So, I thought, maybe its the lyrics. But that can\'t be. Here they are: Barouh ata Adonaï Barouh aba Yeroushalaïm From the Bible to the Coran Revelation in Jerusalem Shalom, salamalekoum You can see christians, jews and muslims Living together and praying Amen ! Let\'s give thanks and praises Barouh ata Adonaï Barouh aba Yeroushalaïm Jerusalem here I\'am Jerusalem je t\'aime Jerusalem here I\'am Jerusalem je t\'aime Israela yakirati Israela yakirati Ani ohév otarh Israela yakirati From the Bible to the Coran Revelation time Shalom, salamalekoum You can see christians, jews and muslims Living together and praying... This song is bloody brilliant! I really enjoyed it. Although I do find two things curios about the comments that were made on this page: A) I find that art in general _is_ political by nature. And thus does warrant a discussion on that level. Although I do have to say that this IS a music forum and therefore, I for one, think that any political discussions should have to do with the artists point of view and not just random spouting about whether or not Jews have a right to be in Israel (and vice versa). If this was a song sang by an Israeli Jewish artist or an Israeli or Palestinian Arab artist then I suppose such a discussion would have some merit. Not, though, when the song clearly has to do with a _none_ Jews perception of Israél and Judah. B) Sorry Ana, but this has got to be the funniest freaking thing I've read all day, "...read the right accurate history...", meaning that only you know what is the right or accurate history to read? Curios that you were too inapt to notice that this song was recorded 20 years ago nor that it has absolutely nothing to do with any form of the Zionist movement. (At least as an "ism" movement, as a concept the artist may have had some perception or other of it, you'd have to read more about him rather then from your "right and accurate history" books.) ana wrote:
I think or actually I can tell that this singer is an ignorant who is just singing for money, this singer doesn't know nothing about history or even what's going on around him now, if he's not from Palestine or anything around it how the hell can he know anything about it, it's easy watch the news to see how the Zionists are peace makers, they're peace makers to the level of killing kids with rocks by High Tech Tanks, beleive me people this guy is just singing for money, read the right accurate history and tell me when the Jews rulled Palestine, they ruled Egypt but not Palestine...
Really, really, really, um... bad.

I'm white and I hate me. Not as much as this song though.
Where\'s the \'skip\' button? Just park me at the beginning of the next song, thanks, and I\'ll wait in silence.
I first heard this song back in the late 80\'s on the sound track for a Greg Stump ski flick. I loved it then, and I still really enjoy it. I usually end up dancing around the house when I play this CD. Was anyone else a Stump fan way back when? He had some really great music in his films. I believe somehow he was friends with Trevor Horn and into the ZTT crowd. Good stuff.
bah! how religion can make good reggae turn into twaddle, piffle with a ganja beat. As a real reggae/ska lover I hate this song the most! Sorry, empty warhead.
Irie! Give thanks and praises to the Most High, Jah Rastafari! This has put me in the best mood.
This song was written and recorded years before any of the 'holy politico' you people are complaining about here. Alpha Blondy is a very religious man who is simply singing of his faith in several of his learned tounges. Don't slam something you don't know anything about, ana. Or better yet -- become educated on your topic before you spew useless jargon.

TO ALL YOU IGNORANT PEOPLE OUT THERE....READ UP ON YOUR RASTAFARIAN BELIEFS, AND YOU MIGHT JUST UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT. IT\'S NOT ABOUT ABOUT POLITICS, OR WHO WAS THERE FIRST, OR WHO BELONGS WHERE...ITS ABOUT FAITH

A song like this needs a huge stereo-system with the bass turned up all the way. Let those basslines move you.
this is definitely eclectic. tnx for playing it. more information about this artist?
I think in parts he\'s singing Baruch Haba Yerushalayim (Jerusalem in Hebrew) - which is welcome (or literally blessed is the one that arrives) as opposed to Baruch ata - Blessed are you (standard opening for blessings) Also Israel I love you and Israel My dear one.
Alpha Blondie...cool, your taste in reggae is impecabble. If I remember correctly, he also sings in French and Ethopian.
Hebrew reggae? How utterly cool -- thanks Bill!
Yes, that\'s Hebrew. He\'s singing, \"Dear Israel, I love you.\" Then there\'s some liturgical language, to the effect of \"Blessed are you, God, bilder of Jerusalem.\" There\'s also some Arabic, namely \"Salaam aleikum,\" meaning \"Peace be unto you.\" As an Israeli Jew, I\'ve been fascinated for a long time by the connection the Rasta movement feels with Zion/Jersusalem and Jewish history.
Was that Hebrew I heard on this track?
