Nighttime slows
Raindrops splash rainbows
Perhaps someone you know
Could sparkle and shine
As daydreams slide
To colour from shadow
Picture the moonglow
That dazzles my eyes
And I love you

Just lying smiling in the dark
Shooting stars around your heart
Dreams come bouncing in your head
Pure and simple every time
Now you're crying in your sleep
I wish you'd never learnt to weep
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
Pure and simple every time

Dream of sights
Of sleigh rides in seasons
Where feelings not reasons
Can make you decide
As leaves pour down
Splash Autumn on gardens
As colder nights harden
Their moonlit delights
And I love you

Just lying smiling in the dark
Shooting stars around your heart
Dreams come bouncing in your head
Pure and simple every time
Now you're crying in your sleep
I wish you'd never learnt to weep
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
Pure and simple every time

Look at me with starry eyes
Push me up to starry skies
There's stardust in my head
Pure and simple every time
Fresh and deep as oceans new
Shiver at the sight of you
I'll sing a softer tune
Pure and simple over you

If love's the truth then look no lies
And let me swim around your eyes
I've found a place I'll never leave
Shut my mouth and just believe
Love is the truth I realize
Not a stream of pretty lies
To use us up
And waste our time

Lying smiling in the dark
Shooting stars around your heart
Dreams come bouncing in your head
Pure and simple every time
Now you're crying in your sleep
I wish you'd never learnt to weep
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
Pure and simple every time

Look at me with starry eyes
Push me up to starry skies
There's stardust in my head
Pure and simple every time
Fresh and deep as oceans new
Shiver at the sight of you
I'll sing a softer tune
Pure and simple over you

Pure and simple just for you

Whenever I hear the guitar riff I get a New Order thought too.  Someone posted a video on https://youtu.be/MxvpvzaCWgM?si=rmwdgx27OiTlnM-X comparing it with Love Vigilantes.

I found a reply by Ian on X/Twitter by someone who asked whether it was an homage to NO and here is his reply there:

No, i actually loved Some faraway beach by Eno and when i recorded the solo I thought it sounded too like that so i adjusted the timing and a couple of notes .. much later when it was released i realised it was very close to the new order riff and a jam solo...
but now i think maybe those kinda notes were just in the zeitgeist at that time in the same way chuck berry 12 bar riffs were in the 60’s.
Is that power chord riffage sampled from New Order… or a blatant rip-off?!
The jolly arrangement belies the heartfelt love song lyric.
Pump up the volume every time. Takes me back to happy places….
Does the beginning remind anyone else of Bowie's Heroes?
Cute and happy 😃
Just jumped me straight back to being 22 and not giving a flying fck about anything, and that girl I listened to this with....sparkle and shine!
I love this song. I’m not ashamed to say it. It reminds me when I met my wife. Why can’t we have a little happiness and just frivolous joy in the world!? Not everything has to be deep and meaningful. Just enjoy it!
AAAAHHHHH the 90s.....

Totally! You know, I feel the same about Bittersweet by Big Head Todd when that song plays - what that's the same year - coincidence?! (probably)
I love hearing this!
Thank you, Bill & Rebecca

Throw in Stone Roses, The Wedding Present, Primal Scream, Wonderstuff, Felt, even the Pixies with the mass UK following  and that was one of my favourite ever music years (helped that I was at uni and gigging most nights!)
play it again, play it again, play it again
Love TLS but I suggest RP to play other songs, this one may be a hit but it's not so relevant in their discography.

Lover say, it's fantastic
I hear OMD...
Only realised recently that Ian Brodie produced a lot of early Echo & the Bunnymen
this entire album is great! happy Thursday everyone!
Such a happy tune... and hopeful lyrics.
Bump it to 11.

It seems aparent who is tacky here, doctor.

Mind you (all) the genres didn't exist back then, this proves to be a marvelous piece of pop rock alternative culture beginnings
Perfect workout song on a sunny morning.
The Lightning Seeds are where interesting and intelligent music meets Top 40 radio. Excellent.
Pet Shop Boys meets OMD.

Cute and catchy.

Tough times for Liverpool too, devastated by Thatcherite destruction of shipbuilding and manufacturing, hence the 'political' songs in the LS  oeuvre.

My consistent music go-to from 1969 to 2009 was WBCN, 104.1 FM, Boston. So even though I would never have guessed the name of this band the ear worm stuck from 'BCN's including it in their rotation.

The Lighting Seeds made a bunch of beautiful songs, yet RP plays always this one, I wonder why.
God, weren't the 80s great?  Sure sounds like it...
All of a sudden I have a big grin on my face.
New Order wants their guitar back.
Pop bliss. Hilariously upbeat. Love it.
Pure pop pleasure.
They're a him not a they. CHECK YOUR PRONOUNS!
this song kept my spirits up during the beginning of my battle with depression (now that I think about it) in the late 80's early 90's. I have loved them ever since.

Psychedelic Furs and Echo and the Bunnymen turned into the Wiggles.
I missed this at the time.  Listened mostly to jazz.  Glad I've been able to enjoy it on RP!
Instant mood lifter.
Thanks for this song; I haven't heard them in awhile and such sweetness it evokes! 'pure and simple every time!'
Listening to this in the house. Going out to my workshop I connected to RP on my phone, so as not to miss a beat. The phone started the track from the beginning, and by some strange quirk of fate, the syncopation (whilst not the track) was in sync! Double toe-tappin' IMHO!

Having a crap week, friends dying of cancer, work is hell.... and this song comes on as I'm having a 'moment'.   Big smile on face, ear buds go in and volume goes up.

As Brestois said "This song has always made me happy."
For some reason, I thought this was Pet Shop Boys.  Thanks to RP for setting my record straight.

I"m thinking that this sounds a lot like Psychedelic Furs. Try to imagine this with that singers voice.
Why so much Cake? Come on. Getting kickbacks from this? Absolutely no musicality at all.  None  Play something musical.
Alpha Ya Ya Diallo was suggested and rejected. Perhaps he is too musical for this station.

I don't sponsor this station based on these listening choices.  Approaching zero musicality.

Disappointing tunes.

You're so right!  So many ordinary songs sound so  much better when part of a Radio Paradise mix.  I'm about to cancel my Sirius XM subscription and just listen to RP on Bluetooth in my car.  (And make sure I make a donation to RP every year... that's only fair.)
Oh this is good. The Clientele "My face inside the trees" is clearly inspired by this song. By the way, i don't remember hearing them here.
Awwww. I try not to be a sentimental person. But this one. How always lovely and perfect and evocative of... something else we once had.
Does any human ever "learn" to weep?

Yeah, this is different. I was in the forums a few hours ago and it didn't look like this yet.

To those who are unfamiliar with the Hillsborough Disaster, google works. It was a full-on Police cover-up, so more power to a band who put their efforts into forcing a review.
Hmm. There was an age when the Lightning Seeds were ubiquitous in the pop charts, but hearing them in 2015 their music does sound rather dated. I've always had a soft spot for them for their support of, and solidarity with, the Liverpool dockers who were locked out by their employers in the late 90s, and their active support for the Justice for Hillsborough campaign - unlike other pop bands, they did make an effort to sing about and connect with the wider world. The music was catchy enough, but without much heft or weight, going in one ear and out of the other leaving little lasting trace.

What's happened to them in recent years, anyone know?
Good lyrics, nice tune... Just what a soothing song should be to ease the soul ... Nice set mr & mrs goldstein!!!
