God, I love to turn my little blue world upside down
God, I love to turn my little blue world upside down
Inside my head the noise, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter
You see I'm afraid I'll always be still coming out of my mother upside down

Don't you love to turn this little blue girl upside down
Oh, I know you love to turn this little blue girl, baby, upside down
But my heart it says you've been shatter, shatter, shatter, shatter, shattered
And I know you're still a boy, still coming out of your mother

But when you going to stand on your own
I say the world is sick
You say tell me what makes us, darling?
You see you always find my faults
Faster than you find you're own
You say the world is getting rid of her demons
I say, baby, what have you been smoking?
Well, I dreamed, I dreamed, I dreamed I loved a black boy
My daddy would scream

Don't you love to turn this little blue girl upside down
Any kind of touch I think is better than none even upside down
But you see I'm tangled up, got a kitten, kitten, kitten, kitten in my hair
Cincinnati, I like the word, it's the only thing we can't seem to turn upside down

Well, I found the secret to life
I found the secret to life
I'm okay when everything is not okay
I said I found the secret to life
I found the secret to life
I'm okay when everything is not okay, is not okay

Don't we love to turn our little blue world upside down
I said don't we love to turn our little blue world baby upside down
Inside my head a voice, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter, chatter
And it says, girl, you're all the same, still coming out of your mothers
Still coming out of your mothers upside down

Some of my college friends really got into performance art when we were younger...and as such made my tag along to a show at a local university.  One guy gets on stage with a circular saw and a piece of plywood.  Proceeds to cut it up.  Mad applause.

To me, Tori is that guy playing music.

Eh, I'm not her biggest fan but she has a few songs that are quite good. I don't like this one though
LOVE TOR!!!!
Lovely voice and great piano work, but I personally find her music a bit tedious. My husband used to be a big fan.
So I love her. Shoot me!

...and she's a great pianist to boot.  Love her stuff!

That's what's always made Tori uninteresting to me. I always hear Kate, whose lyrics are just more engaging and less about extremely specific personal dilemmas that can be exhausting for the listener to parse. Kate has a connection to the universal that Tori unfortunately rarely expresses.
sounds like spleen tree rot

You sound a bit insecure.
Tori Amos, certainly one of the more distinctive, great range and beautiful female voices  the last 20 years. Her and Melissa Etheridge are  long term standouts for writers who can put feel into their music.
I love Tori and think she's incredibly talented.

TA sure brings out the loathsome comments on here, don't she Bill.

But congrats to that one for topping the chart.
even when just working with RP in the background I can listen to almost anything without being too bothered, except for TA that is, her music never fails to grate for some reason.
I wonder if she eats Famous Amos cookies... to feel better.
N O .
whoa. RP nailed it on this one; the transition from future islands spirit to this one had me thinking there was a fade out on it, but it was the piano rhythm matching perfect

So weird reading the comments. I loved listening to this song. Maybe it's because I'm busy doing other things with RP on in the background. I always think of the actual recording artist reading these kinds of comments about their efforts, and I really don't get the point.

Maybe if I listen to this warbling upside down it will sound better.

Nope!
Way too much Tori on the RP.  Bleck.

Fabulous song. Terrific artist. Lovely woman.
But pass me some 5 Hour Shot. And PSD me to some rock & rule.

Definitely not her most interesting work.

Usually like Tori.  She simply doesn't curb her tendency to musical hyperbole here.  Oh, the lyrics??

I agree that the transition was genius, but tori deserves better than a 6.5.  7 from S. Fla.

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be dancing buck ass naked all across the world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners...  we love this lovely lovely song...  it tweaks our nipples...  love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...

genius transition from Chopin, I agree. Makes me think in this way:

Today music – no dynamic, flat and strong sound, doubt art

Past music – dynamic, colorful sound, pure art

The 6.5 is deserving, but Bill's transition from Chopin was genius.
I love Tori, but Chopin is a tough act to follow.
Tori still kicks ass!
What's in her head? Chatter? Or cheddar?
Boring. EMO, or whatever it should be called.
Mute {#Stop}
I like Tori but am not a fan of this song.  But I am continually impressed by Bill's talent in putting themed sets together.  In this case, Tori's nice piano follows a beautiful piano piece by Chopin.  Brilliant.
Always love to hear Tori!
thank you for playing this song..... Been waiting for some Tori cause that's my signal to go to lunch!!!

10 for this song, 12 for the segue. Brilliant.

The segue from Chopin's Nocturne No. 1 into this song gave me goosebumps.
a Chopin nocturne followed by this — I'm floating :-)

This EP came from her first album Little Earthquakes.

Love the bass and piano combination.

Tinkly and precious.  Hmm.

Tori and I are complicated.  Her piano is fantastic and lots of times her songwriting is very good as well, but her delivery is just too tinkly and precious.
Nice! Love the piano, as always.
It bothers me that her voice sounds so forced.  {#Yell}
Blech. Ick. Poopy.

Make the pain stop!!! The bloated, self-important, non-melodic pain!!!
Yay! Tori!
Half of the good Tori Amos songs are on singles and EPs. I rate this song among her best work.
Goddess in every way....

This was Tori in her prime.
I was living under a rock, musically, during the Tori Era. If this is representative, I can appreciate why folks like her so much.
This song is just a mess. One.
The MP3 compression is so bad. Piano sounds so weird. Low level instruments just disappeared. Please find another recording.
One of the few Tori Amos songs I like, but her lyrics are just well, in her own mind.
beautiful song! I miss the days when Tori was pumping out music like this.
sorry, but me no like.
funny I've never heard this played here. a rare but favorite of mine.
This is one of the songs that epitomizes why Tori is perhaps the most amazing artist alive
She's got it all, magic voice, stellar piano(s) player, orchestrater, performer extraordinare!

Even a bad day in Paradise is a better than a good day anywhere else...
This is one of my absolute favorite Tori songs. It absolutely captures the messed-up world of a classically-trained, self-depricating female musician. This has been dedicated to SO many men on my behalf. I've forgiven all of them, btw. This was Tori in her prime. Sigh...

Upside Down with love an' admiration for ya Tori! Thanx Bill!

Recently I found myself thinking that since (and including) 'From The Choirgirl Hotel' every Tori album sounds like a 'Best of' collection! Every song a winner. 'Upside Down' is great, too. Like it or not, Tori is producing a body of work that, IMHO will be listened to for many generations after us.

must agree with you. glad others enjoy her work but i have tried and just can't get there. imo, her style is just overly dramatic.
Funny, that's how I feel about Kate Bush. She far exceeds Tori in the overly dramatic department, IMO. I think Tori tempers it nicely, and offers some variety in her songs (yes, it's true, just listen to enough of her repertoire and you'll see). I couldn't listen to Tori all day long, but I do appreciate the occasional Tori tossed into the mix here on RP.
How's this for karma? I got bored with RP, went over to LaunchCast's adult alternative channel and heard a Goo Goo Dolls rendition of "Give a Little Bit," followed by "Mr. Jones" by the Counting Crows. That made me want to share a comment on the RP boards about how this is my least favorite Crows song, and when I got here, I saw "Upside Down" playing. I immediately shut down LaunchCast and turned on RP. The moral: Even when RP is bad, it's better than other stations. I've learned my lesson and am staying put.
Tori Amos plays piano pretty good and sounds good like the words to.
Nice transisiton from Beethoven to Tori. Couldn't tell where one song ended and the other began. A least I have good music to take my mind off of the scary election results. I heard Canada is nice this time of year......
Tori Amos plays piano pretty good. I'd be interested to hear if she ever starts singing half as well.
the voices in my head are screeching again please make it stop they hurt please make them go away help me it hurts
Wow... haven't heard this one in years. The Winter single had some great tracks!

From Tori's best period in my opinion. Thanks RP!
Tori is a good lyricist and musician, but i just can't stomach her singing style... :headshake:

I've never understood the nasty, violent responses to Tori's music on these pages. I've seen her a few times and love her music. Keep it up, rp!
