''Warning! Today's forecast calls for blue skies.''

Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin'
Everybody's in a play
And don't you know,
It's a beautiful new day

Runnin' down the avenue,
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?

Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race
A celebration Mr. Blue Sky's
Up there waitin' and today
Is the day we've waited for

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?

Hey there Mr. Blue,
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you
Hey there, Mr. Blue,
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you

Mr. Blue Sky, Mr. Blue Sky, Mr. Blue Sky

Mr. Blue you did it right,
But soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin' over, now his
Hand is on your shoulder,
Never mind I'll remember you this, I'll remember you this way

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?

Hey there Mr. Blue (Sky),
We're so pleased to be with you (Sky)
Look around see what you do (Blue),
Everybody smiles at you

Please turn me over

obviously this is ELO, but i could see that maybe they could have been influenced by the bee gees, kinks and the beatles on this one. maybe?

i love ELO.

O M G I had COMPLETELY forgotten about Sparky's Magic Piano. Thanks for that memory -  I think

Not one for an eclectic range of musical tastes then.
Anarchy!

Anarchy!

Anarchy!

perfect example of what went wrong with rnr music in the 1970s
I remember this very elaborate triple gatefold edition complete with carton board diy kit to build space ship model my brother owned. Those were the great times of vinyl.

Mr. Bluesky. A great wheat ale from the Griffin Claw brewery in Birmingham, Michigan.
Début 1978, je découvre ce disque dans les bacs de mon disquaire. J'ai réuni l'argent nécessaire pour m'offrir ce double album. Depuis il accompagne ma vie. Plus de 40 ans de vie commune avec ELO :)
Wish I still had that t-shirt with the album cover art
1977... Really?  Ahhh the memories... my silly ass got married that year.  Still married....  Still happy... :)

And todays weather report according to RP is:

Hard Sun - Eddie Vedder
Rain in the Summertime - The Alarm
Mr Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra
Pretty much sums up the weather this weird and scary summer of 2022.

Got it all figured out, eh? Go outside and get some fresh air!
It's pouring rain outside this morning, this song was just what I needed!
Anyone else get tortured by this song being on constant loop with their child playing a certain level in Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 on the PlayStation?...
The first time I ever heard them / saw them - on Top of the Pops - I think it was this song - yet another act that shocked the senses - I had never heard or seen anything like them :)
I know we get used to them, they are so overplayed - but back then - they were super fresh :)
All the Beatles, including Saint John Lennon, thought ELO and Jeff Lynn were their natural successors. WTF?

Mr Idiot, tell me how much punk is played today?

The cover art makes me think of the old vintage top toys with the handle you'd push down... if you've never seen one that probably doesn't make sense, but Google "ohio art space top" you'll see.

First of all, ELO were British, not American, and they had over twenty Top 40 hits.
This sounds like a rip off of one of those McCartney 'Granny' songs that Lennon and the others hated.
One of my teenage son's favorite songs!
This was a burst of clean, upbeat, electric energy when it hit the airwaves.  A nice change from all the grungy, sweaty, leather-clad classic rock at the time - and I was a big fan of the grungy, sweaty, leather-clad classic rock.  Also helps that my 6th grade teacher, a classmate's mom, had a great shag-lined stabbin' cabbin' with 8-track sound system and would blast ELO on the way to school field trips.  The van was stuffed with as many kids as would physically fit I'm sure - all unbelted.  Great memories

It's always good to hear this heartwarming tune, and I'm gratified and amused by how many younger jammers here play this cranked!

I was having a pretty bad day when this came on RP today. I tried to continue having a bad day after it started, but I couldn't pull it off.

Tellement d'accord !   même si Jeff  Lynne n'a produit que des chefs d'œuvre.

Still epic after all these years.
Groot :)
I'm genuinely disappointed. Obviously just my own opinion.
Toujours aussi bon à écouter. Le meilleurs album de ELO ! 10/10 à tout l'album.
This song always makes me feel happy.
Saw their Wembley concert on TV the other night. What a great live band. Always rated Jeff Lynne ever since the Idle Race. Very talented musician.
That album cover makes me smile. Nostalgia

Good bubblegum.

The band might have been almost bearable with a decent drummer, but Bev Bevan was a dull plodder and this music is just dull and plodding, despite the best efforts of the rest of the band.
Makes me always happy 😊😊. On my trip to india with the camper van, the song was playing constantly.
I have this song on my playlist that I play when I am substitute teaching.  To my amazement I recently had a bunch of 6th Graders singing along with it.  Evidently it is a song being used with one of their popular video games.
Now I'm waiting for bell bottom hip-hugging jeans to come back into vogue.

Nah. This always reminds me of the Love & Monsters episode of Doctor Who.
Accurately captures the spirit of this post-election moment.
One of those rare pop songs that was overplayed and still sounds  terrific 40+ years later.  Quality never goes out of style.
It's just one of those perfect songs. What would you change? Certainly not the ending...
This is such a happy song!
Kirk Hamilton on his podcast Strong Songs does a great analysis of this song:

https://strongsongspodcast.com...
Saw Jeff Lynne's ELO perform last year and I was amazed as how spot he and the whole bands sounds to the original recordings. Jeff hasn't lost a beat and probably never will.
Am I the only person who remember it not by modern shitty movies, but perfect film "eternal sunshine of spotless mind"?
Hey there Mr. Blue Sky, Please come visit us in Nye Beach, OR. :) I heart RP
This always puts a smile on my face. I want it played at my funeral :o)

I remember James Gang 'Yer Album' had 'Turn me Over' and 'Play me Again' recorded on the run out grooves on the vinyl.  Had to have a manual turntable .

Rediscovered ELO about 9 months ago and totally addicted yet again.  So much talent!
The angle of the sun this time of year reminds me of getting out of work at a long-disappeared job and walking directly into the sun, shining perpendicular to the street, to reach my car.

How I miss it so.
Nice harmony and production on this ELO hit

Exactly.  By the end of the first side many stoners would need help understanding why the music stopped.

My local college station uses that line every Friday night at 8 pm when they play the "Classic Rock Album of the Week".

Weezer's cover isn't half bad, either.
Gave it a 8 because I have had a soft spot for ELO

Remember when ELO was in trouble for playing along on stage to taped music? It was quite the scandal and they tried to deny it.

I remember them being criticized for their "Out of the Blue - Live at Wembley" concert film because they had dubbed the studio recordings over the live recording for the video releases, which made it appear lip-synced.  As far as I remember, they used some pre-recorded stuff in their keyboards and synthesizers, but all played their instruments during concerts.
The ultimate Happy,Happy song.{#Bananapiano} Thank you Jeff, (and ELO) Bill and Rebecca!   {#Roflol}{#Roflol}{#Roflol}
We love singing this in our community choir!
{#Devil_pimp}it is still zesty ! enjoyed jeff when he was with roy woods then elo then the wilburys and he is still rockin
Oh now come on.....just put on those headphones and enjoy it.  I know you will!  {#Music}
I wasn't that big of a fan back when this was new, liked the radio songs, but one does have to look back and appreciate how great this guy was in the engineering booth.
The 5th Beatle, I saw this tour live back when it got released, beyond awesome!!! Thanks Bill
Jeff's baroque delirium is part of my DNA and will always make my senses vibrate, thanks RP.

This song is going to be featured in that new "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel.  Baby Groot rocks to ELO.

Expect the Electric Light Orchestra "revival" to continue into the 2nd half of 2017 following their induction into the R&R Hall of Fame.
awesome song...
Never fails to put me in a fantastic mood
I just got yelled at by my boss for singing aloud at my desk. First Caro Emerald, now ELO. ^_^ Bill - how are you reading my personal playlist?

Todd Rundgren did that early on in his career and was criticized for it, even thought the tape he was singing to was of him playing all the instruments.

He is doing something similar on his current tour.

I think most large production shows use at least some pre recorded stuff on stage.  where would the floyd be without the money sfx?   I mean, 90% of 80s bands like OMD, soft cell, Gary Newman et. al. had a reel 2 reel spinning in the background.
ELO was noisy music, not unlike Yes. You either thought it was beautiful noise or you didn't. I prefered Yes.

I must say though, that after seeing Jeff Lynne's terrific London concert on TV, I have a new appreciation for ELO. A tonic for the waves of utterly bland music churned out in the last 15 years.
