I've tried but I couldn't find any warning of you, dear
It's hard to make any sense of what I feel here

All I know
Is that my days go on and on
Without you here, without you here
My days go on and on
Without you here, without you here

I beg your pardon, love
But you've interrupted me
And the sad song that's played
Like a drum inside of me

My, my, what a fool am I
For allowing this to be
But this fool cannot ignore
The light when he sees you

And my days go on and on
Without you here, without you here

sounds like coldplay to me...
Nice tune. Thought it a  little Fink-ish too.
His CD Landline is magnificent.
nice
Excellent :)

And a Regina Specktor piano styling....
His Landline album is pure revelation.
He has a touch. Infectious.

Bill Laswell is a bass player and producer, who has worked with jazz, funk, reggae, punk, metal, and ambient artists since the 1980s.  I don't believe he and Greg Laswell are related.

My absolute favourite song this year (i.e. I only heard it for the first time this year) :)

I think normally I wouldn't like this song, but...

Just at the moment the lyrics are cutting me up.
I've figured out why this song is unsettling to me. Nearly constant quarter note bass drum and descending chord progression along with it's mournful singing in octaves. Just repeating these elements don't ring well in my ears.

Yes, well caught. Didn't notice till you mentioned it.

"Farewell" from this album is really great.
Reminds me of DaDa.  Like it.

I love this.
"My days go on and on without you here."  Yes they do; and sometimes I miss you a very lot, brother.

We bonded over a lot of music.  Years ago we went out to see somebody else perform and Greg Laswell is the opening act.  We showed up late and only caught about half his set, but we knew we were watching something special.  I had to buy his music.  Although it's sad and haunting, it's real.  It became more of a reality when we broke up and when the ghosts of our past would sneak up on me... a place, a song, the taste of a good red wine.  Laswell's music touches a nerve.  It's not right for everyone.  Everyone can't handle it.  It's a look in the eye and an arm around the shoulder or a hug.  It's somebody telling you they've been there.

i really liked the way you told it, and totally agree!

..maybe trying to figure out how it unsettles will lead ya to the "why" of it..worth a try, anyhow.. :p

..also: 8!..
Maybe because this seems kind of mournful?

Man, that's old-fashioned.
Me too.
How's the album overall - anyone?

Grabbed this after hearing it here some time ago—LOVE it and can't stop listening to it. So much is right about it. Driving background.. Melody.. Dissonance .. Yes!!!
The descending chord progression is seductive to my ears. Always works for me. Yeah...the lyrics are a bit over the top for my tastes. Reminds me of a bit of Difford and Tilbrook in certain parts with the higher and lower octave unison singing.

Definitely growing on me; however a bit too close to Radiohead - a bit more originality would make it stronger.

How do you do that? How do you dip into that big pot of originality and make a song just that much better?
repetitive, ain't it?

very pleasant...
Not sure why but this one always perks me up a bit...tired of analyzing it...will just appreciate it...

Ah, but what is a forum for?  Love the variety..And made a suggestion for the addition to said variety.  Nah, I've already plopped my rear end on the couch, kicked off the shoes, opened a PBR..and a bag of Funyons.

Yes, they do.
I hate this song. Too melodramatic. Well, okay - I'm not into melodrama these days - I have enough of it in RL. Maybe in five years, I'll be in a better place and this song will just be amusing.  Not rating it, because I've heard other Laswell songs that I really love.  This just isn't one of them...

A less interesting and talented version maybe.  Not that I dislike Greg Laswell, I just don't think he has near the chops of Radiohead.

Cross between Dave Matthews and Nick Drake.
Mostly good.
the drum machine detracts, tho :(

Just saw him 2 nights ago in Indy. He's just fabulous live. Love, love his tunes!

Yeah, I agree. I bought "Covers" recently, after hearing Greg's cover of Morphine's "In Spite Of Me" (also on the EP). "Your Ghost" is probably my favorite cover on the album...just haunting.

All of Greg's stuff is really good. For those of you who are just hearing of him, I'd recommend checking his other stuff out. I haven't listened to his newest release ("Take A Bow") yet, but I have everything else he's put out, and it's fantastic.

When your father is Coldplay, and your mother is Radiohead, this is what the baby sounds like.
Soulful. Sweet. A revelation.
Who the hell is this guy?
yes.
Another classic this-is-great-who-the-hell-is-this RP gem. We are beholden, Bill. Great work.

I was pondering whether to listen to some Greg laswell or RP. Clearly I had no choice in the matter. Awesome, but.. scary.
