Bill Laswell is a bass player and producer, who has worked with jazz, funk, reggae, punk, metal, and ambient artists since the 1980s.  I don't believe he and Greg Laswell are related.

I've figured out why this song is unsettling to me. Nearly constant quarter note bass drum and descending chord progression along with it's mournful singing in octaves. Just repeating these elements don't ring well in my ears.

We bonded over a lot of music.  Years ago we went out to see somebody else perform and Greg Laswell is the opening act.  We showed up late and only caught about half his set, but we knew we were watching something special.  I had to buy his music.  Although it's sad and haunting, it's real.  It became more of a reality when we broke up and when the ghosts of our past would sneak up on me... a place, a song, the taste of a good red wine.  Laswell's music touches a nerve.  It's not right for everyone.  Everyone can't handle it.  It's a look in the eye and an arm around the shoulder or a hug.  It's somebody telling you they've been there.

The descending chord progression is seductive to my ears. Always works for me. Yeah...the lyrics are a bit over the top for my tastes. Reminds me of a bit of Difford and Tilbrook in certain parts with the higher and lower octave unison singing.

I hate this song. Too melodramatic. Well, okay - I'm not into melodrama these days - I have enough of it in RL. Maybe in five years, I'll be in a better place and this song will just be amusing.  Not rating it, because I've heard other Laswell songs that I really love.  This just isn't one of them...

Yeah, I agree. I bought "Covers" recently, after hearing Greg's cover of Morphine's "In Spite Of Me" (also on the EP). "Your Ghost" is probably my favorite cover on the album...just haunting.

All of Greg's stuff is really good. For those of you who are just hearing of him, I'd recommend checking his other stuff out. I haven't listened to his newest release ("Take A Bow") yet, but I have everything else he's put out, and it's fantastic.
