Maybe I'm foolish,
Maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this
And see what's behind
Got no way to prove it
So maybe I'm lying

But I'm only human after all,
I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me
Don't put your blame on me

Take a look in the mirror
And what do you see?
Do you see it clearer
Or are you deceived
In what you believe?

'Cause I'm only human after all,
You're only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put your blame on me

Some people got the real problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above

I'm only human after all,
I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me

Don't ask my opinion,
Don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness
For making you cry,
For making you cry

'Cause I'm only human after all,
I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me,
Don't put the blame on me

Some people got the real problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above

I'm only human after all,
I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me

I'm only human, I make mistakes
I'm only human that's all it takes
To put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me

'Cause I'm no prophet or messiah
You should go looking somewhere higher

I'm only human after all,
I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me,
Don't put the blame on me

I'm only human, I do what I can
I'm just a man, I do what I can
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put your blame on me

If we start judging music on the morality of the lyric, we'll get into a quagmire very quickly!

Dear idiots - fuck off. Your interpretation of this song is just that. You think someone is talking about something you know nothing about. Again fuck off. Take that ignorant fucking head and stick it right up your ass. Yeah you tinypriest… insecure smooth brains

This is RP, not anti-social media. Keep it civil, please.
Those of us brought up in the Jurassic remember rag and bone men regularly trundling their horse-drawn carts down the streets after scrap metal. For younger listeners, look up Steptoe & Son, a bitter-sweet sitcom about the business made back in the 60s IIRC.

This guy sure has soul but I wish other songs would get airtime as this one is a bit cliched now.
Is this Magic Garden Sessions version available on a CD or streaming service?

WOW. this is good! new to me.
Leave him alone! Listen to the voice. Tidy up your vitriol & put it to bed.

I like the way you've left this for each of us to interpret however we wish!
what? a different version? so tedious

How is this fucking so controversial that you haters and idiots can’t understand he is talking about “some hero figure”…. Like John Lennon and the Beatles - Manson fucking blamed the song, or perhaps bring it down to people blaming video games for violent behavior.

Bullshit. Take the blame for what you do. Who is Rag'n'Bone Man to speak for John Lennon? Take the blame and give an answer, and don't whine.

I think this is an exceptional song and the lyrics can be read many ways which makes it even more interesting- to me if feels like a valid point. We are only human and making mistakes is what we do
I blame myself.
I must admit, I'm not a big fan of the studio version but I really enjoy this one.
Opening chord is Vienna Teng's "Close To Home".
All behavior is behavior of choice.  Time to own it big boy.

"Free Will", what a concept...

Dang, that's harsh - but funny...

Yeah.  He had a word with God and specifically requested the town where he was born.

I'm not sure that's the point of these lyrics, though.  Doesn't appear to me to be trying to excuse his own mistake(s), but rather saying there's only so much he can do about things.

It seems that he is singing from the God's perspective.  He [God] is the one that makes you cry, that he is the one that you put the blame on. And the line "Lord heavens above" comes from the first person view, so it fits well.
Changes the whole dynamic of the song. And what an excellent execution!.
The lamest tune of 2020. 'I'm only human' is not an excuse for anything. Grab your bootstraps and man up.

We are all human, so what.
Take responsibility for your life.
Trite as can be. This trend of trying to re-create a music scene done better by soul singers of the 70's can die any day now.
Super-soulful, and an amazing voice.
he's like a male Adele
excellent
Love the emotion in his voice. Dude's got soul! 8 from me.
I gave 10. God knows, god doesnt have freedom to make mistakes.
Long Live  RP
Rating to me is still 8 -Most Excellent
a VERY solid 8 almost 9

I didn't like the original and I don't like this version any more...maybe because I hate when people say this sort of thing--typically to get out of taking responsibility for something they actually did.

way off....Paradise California (i.e. where B&R "broadcast" from) is 700 miles south from me in the Seattle area.  Sometimes it does feel like Iceland though....grey depressing fall/winter with limited snowfall.  UGGG.
If you want to hear an OUTSTANDING version of this song I would recommend listening to Tokio Myers on YouTube, he actually combines interstellar/human together and creates a Different absolutely beautiful version like you’ve never heard. ( Tokio Myers Human)
Sorry , I put a bullet in your head, but hey, after all, I'm only human.

I agree.  It reminds me a bit of that Hall & Oates song — what is it that can't you go for, specifically?
Prefer the original, but this is really good also.
Great version, which nicely complements Kaleo "Way Down We Go" that I was enjoying before toddling off for my peachy lunch.  Now we've got Toots "Blame On Me".  Sweet job, RP ...
Rory Graham's got an Outstanding voice

I like the original quite a bit, I'm at an 8.5 on it. Hearing this take sorta highlights what I like about the original;  a funky Brit-Hop tune.
Long live RP!
I can see Casper The Ghost singing this.
I like the instrumentation in this version better, but the "original" brings out the "old soul" qualities in his voice better.
