Trouble down at the high school
Somebody got the gunsmoke blues
Trouble down at the high school
Somebody got the gunsmoke blues
Read it in the morning paper
Watch it on the evening news

Over at the house of worship
People praying to the Lord
Over at the house of worship
People praying to the Lord
The gunsmoke blues come calling
God's people ain't here no more

Mama said what's the matter
Son, you ain't acting right
Mama said what's the matter
Son, you ain't acting right
I got a worried feeling
It's the gunsmoke blues alright

Some folks blame the shooter
Other folks blame the gun
But that don't stop the bullets
And more bloodshed to come
A million thoughts and prayers
Won't bring back anyone

No million thoughts and prayers
Won't bring back anyone

A million thoughts and prayers
They won't bring back anyone
No
Won't bring back anyone

This song  is especially poignant given the recent tragedy in [insert location of most recent mass shooting that occurs predominantly  in the good ol' USA]. I used to think that until enough people of a certain political persuasion were personally affected by gun violence, nothing would change. However, considering that after one of their leaders was nearly killed in a mass shooting and  he still supports guns for all without restrictions, I no longer have such hope.  The minority rulers deciding our fate on this and many other issues lack an empathy gene - as do their supporters. Sadly, people in their jurisdictions lack the will or votes  to relegate these gun nut "representatives"  to the dustbin of history.
A powerful and moving  cri de coeur for all the hundreds of schoolkids who'll never become adults :(

And still there are no solutions....in the 21st century.
Unbelievable.

There are solutions. Politicians in the pocket of weapons manufacturers won’t allow them.

Gunsmoke blues at Walmart last night...

Shooting gallery U.S. America currently averaging 1.8 mass shootings per day (late 2020).
Buddy Guy at 86 (2020) and still bringing it. Damn!
Gunsmoke blues at Walmart last night...
First time I saw Buddy was in 1968 so he was about 32 yo at the time. I thought he was an "old blues man", of course I was 16 at the time...

"Thoughts and prayers" is a kind, human way to express empathy, not unlike when we say "I'm sorry for your loss" when someone passes away.  You're not apologizing because you did something wrong, you are just expressing your sympathy.  For whatever reason that sentiment was cynically turned into a political statement.

This song has nothing to do with politics...  It only speaks the truth

If firearms were the solution, we would have complete harmony.

New Buddy Guy! Shame the show the other year did not happen.

Nice relevant song, that will remain relevant in the USA for years to come.
Nice collaboration, and manages to make an important point or two without getting political.
The gun worshippers are not going to like this one...
"A million thoughts and prayers
Won't bring back anyone"

So true.  We passed that station a long time ago.
