Well when you open that bottle of wine
You open a can of worms every time
Now you don't stop, that ain't true
Never said a word, I never had to
It was my attitude
That you thought was rude
It was my attitude

Old habits are hard to break
And I don't know how much I can take
What I think is on the tip
Of my tongue should I let it slip
It was my attitude
That you thought was rude, not me
It was my attitude
That you thought was rude

Remember sitting back in school
I held my tongue until it turned blue
they said I had an attitude

You just failed my test
'Cause I know you be the best
So wipe me off as you conclude
A POV is what I can't use
I got an attitude

I got an attitude

Said I had an attitude
Said I had an attitude
Said I had an attitude
An attitude
Said I had an attitude

Dare we ask whose nose had been applied...?

Takes me back to partying out on the roof of Holly Irvine's house, next door to mine, at 933 Broadway, now under the dirt beneath a hideous condoplex, across from CU, the summer of '85. She and her roommies LOVED these guys... Among David Hopewell's house, Holly's house, and mine, THERE WAS A PARTY EVERY NIGHT!

Worst song of a good album.
I would love to hear more Replacments in general on RP.

Sure you don't mean 'The Residents'?

She definitely meant The Residents, but we'll forgive her.

I wouldn't go that far. After Tim and Pleased to Meet Me didn't get them the accolades and radio play they deserved, this came out as an obvious attempt to tone it down and try to get a radio friendly hit, which didn't work either, and led to the end of the band.

New box set has "original" mixes of this album and they sound like we want them to sound.

Just accept the fact that you'll never understand them and leave it at that.

I don't know...it sort of sounds like a sequence from Sesame Street intended to demonstrate to youngsters the negative effects of antisocial behavior.  I imagine assorted Muppets featured in a string of light-hearted dramatic segments which illustrate the point, all set to this song with the word "ATTITUDE" showing up at the bottom of the screen whenever they recite the lyric.  Something created by child psychologists and hard luck musicians at the Childrens Television Workshop.
Surprised we never hear any of Westerberg's solo stuff on here.
Stereo (2002) is a masterpiece.
Oooooh....I've been told my entire life I had an attitude. Yeah, well, SO what?
C'mon people.....only a 6.1?

I miss Emily Litella...but if she would have appeared about 15 years later, there would have probably been a crap movie produced by Lorne Michaels based on the character, so it's better that she's long gone & filed away on the "plus side" in my memory bank.

one of the best comments i have read on RP.
Nice.  I'd like to hear more Replacements on RP.  And Rheos too!

The Replacements were never the same after Bob Stinson was ousted, but hey, we'll always have that killer guitar on "Johnny's Gonna Die" to hang our top hat on...

Hello RP-Listeners!

I wish all of you "MERRY CHRISTMAS",
wherever you are - whoever you wanna be!

Christmas is a sweet-naive tradition -
not a religious event!

I like it anyway!

Still - I hope Bill takes the chance
to rock the christmas-tree to pieces tonight!

"Happy Christmas
your "BAD SANTA",
aka STINGRAY
-from Cologne/Germany-
PS
Sermon of the day (promise: I'm serious):

The "Three Wise Men" - Melchior, Balthasar + Caspar
are buried in a golden sarcophage in"our" dome, the famous
"Cologne dome" - the third highest church-building
in the world - right in the very centre of town, next to the Rhine.
A gothic building of extra-class!

Love the Mats even though this is not one of my personal favorites.
I had this album when I was in high school. I really enjoyed it and wish people would play stuff from it more often.
As someone who struggles with alcohol abuse, the opening lines got my attention:

Well when you open that bottle of wine
you open a can of worms every time

No, typically they do a drive-by on his house, at least that's how it happens in my hood. . .

{#Rolleyes}

Yes, more 'mats! {#Bananajam}
I remember JD from Scrubs dancing to this. Ha, maybe I´ve seen this show one time to many. But I love it. Both - the show and the song
Another contender for the best song opening lines ever...

This whole album is excellent.

Wow! Been long time since I heard this one! Thanks for da memories!{#Dancingbanana_2}
I saw the 'Mats at a rat-hole club in the Ybor City section of Tampa on this tour. If I had known it was the last time I'd get to see them together, I would have paid more attention.

Well, I had a great time. The place was jumping, I had my best girl there, and 7 g. of Western Kentucky's finest in my back pocket.
 It was one of those nights! {#Dancingbanana} {#Drunk} {#Cowboy} {#Hug} {#Wave}

I kinda hear Scrappy Jud Newcom from the Resentments (ironically) in his voice. This would be a very good song for them to cover...

Humility means trusting the Tao, thus never needing to be defensive. A great nation is like a great man: When he makes a mistake, he realizes it. Having realized it, he admits it. Having admitted it, he corrects it. He considers those who point out his faults as his most benevolent teachers. He thinks of his enemy as the shadow that he himself casts. If a nation is centered in the Tao, if it nourishes its own people and doesn't meddle in the affairs of others, it will be a light to all nations in the world.
This really fits in well with the song. Well not done.

please play something from "Let it be" or "Hootenanny"...this is good, but later day, although the songwriting is better...

Yup...agree with your ratings totally....

love it. love the replacements - this cd included, though it isn't my favorite. saw paul solo live. highly recommend it if it happens again in your area.

Is the guy purposely trying not to sing?
God, this sounds better than ever.
For you trivia buffs, Paul Westerberg is the brother of Mary Lucia, a local Minneapolis/St. Paul disc jock.
I was an undergraduate in Minnesota in the early 90's. What is not to love about this song?
Bill, my mom sez you call all the time and ask what I used to listen too, thats cool...thanks!

All right, here's another good 80s vibe dusted off and laid down for us all... Thanks!
Ahhhh, what a refreshlingly tasty ditty from a band whose impact on music continues to grow with time.
Would be nice close to the Kinks song that's been in rotation...
Does it get any worse than this?

BILL!!!!!!!! More Replacements PLEASE! Love this latter day gem, but anything off Let it Be or Tim would be much appreciated
As well as an attitude he's got the ability to miss the odd note by a semitone or two. Not a winning combination, but then, what do I know, I can't even get my TV to work properly
