Set up for good in a whole other life
In the mystery zone
Make us a house
Some far away town
Where nobody will know us well
Where your dad's not around
And all the trouble you look for all your life
You will find it for sure
In the mystery zone
Times that we met
Before we met
Times that we met
We'll go there
To the mystery zone
Ah the mystery zone
There goes the rider
At gates of dawn
He takes no prisoners at all
He'll be there on his own
What gets him gone
Off down that road
Is something he don't understand
Ooh! The mystery zone
Maybe all he wants
Maybe all he needs
Is to know that the sun don't set
On the mystery zone
How come it feels so familiar
When you never been there?
How come it seems so unreachable
You never tried to find
Never tired to find the mystery zone
Mystery zone, oooh!
All of the people
You used to run into but never do now
They took off for the mystery zone
And when you know love
When you find it for real
It contains the emotion sense of
Everyone ready
Your cover was blown
You weren't there but you were
Ooh in the mystery zone
You weren't there but you were
You weren't there but you were
Openin' windows
Doors never close it's the fresh air fiend
It's the information troll
We'll pack a bag
Sendin' it off just some things that never fit right
To the m...
And we'll send it ahead as a test so we'll know
Call it up when it gets there
"What's it like in the mystery zone?"
The times that we met
Before we met
We'll go back there
Oh, times that we met
We'll go back
We'll go back there
The mystery zone
To the mystery zone
The mystery zone

Saw them and Red Rocks. Good.
I saw them co-headling with the Shins at the Greek in Berkeley. Good.
Nay, great!
The mystery zone is one of the most insightful songs about times where all artists and creators find inspiration…
And also about serendipity and the unexplainable "coincidences," we experience in life.
Me Toooooooo!!!!
I have finally come to the realization that just about everything I hear on RP is going to be 7 or above. It is VERY rare that I go below that. And that is a good thing, right? Cuz if I were putting a substantial number of tunes in the low zone, I wouldn't even be here, or feel the need to rate anything, because I wouldn't be listening. But, I give 7's and above because this is an amazing, magical station. What a great sign that I have good luck because I stumbled upon RP. The universe is good and more importantly: Bill and Rebecca, you have saved my sanity in more ways than I can possibly count. What a good thing you are doing for this world. :) Much love to you both!
I have an old friend to thank for turning me on to RP. She keeps it on as background in her yarn shop. It's now my go-to as I work at my computer, pre-pandemic onward. Good company as I sit alone in my house or clean house(!). Thanks Bill and Rebecca for keeping me sane!
There's a LOT of good stuff here, and I've been introduced to a handful of artists that I'd possibly never have heard (Spoon being one of them). But if I never heard Tracy Chapman, Leonard Cohen, Suzanne Vega, U2, Pearl Jam or Norah Jones again I wouldn't mind in the least.
Especially in these insecure Covid times it's so good to have a good friend like RadioParadise on my side. I really love your music mix. I think it's even better on average than my own music collection (of which i am kind of proud). The latter lacks for example Spoon. Thanks so much Bill & Rebecca!
With love from the Netherlands.
You're obviously out of the room when the Cowboy Junkies come on. That's what I reserve my sub-7s for. And any Robert Plant song with the word "fire" in it. Gotta have some vices...
Cuddled up with a golf club and did heroin.
There are a few I rate below 7, but most of the time not far enough to actually bother rating, But, yeah, there is a reason I been listening for how ever long (looking back I joined on 12/25/2001, but I know I listened longer before joining up).
I'll echo the love for BnR, in fact I'd love to see a documentary made about Radio Paradise *and William& Co..*
I will say that I utilize the entire rating zone, from 1-10, and try to keep the bell curve centered at the 7 range. I usually rate new-to-my-ears tracks at a 6 unless it really grabs me, it's a mental note that "this track is in the 'Mystery Zone' - this one's an 8...Long Live RP and our continued blessing at this musical oasis!!
I get it.
Love Jam & Spoon - longshot that we'll hear it on RP, but nice to be reminded of them in these comments.

I do think so aswell, "rainy taxi" is one of my favourite songs on it, quite a "soulful" album
...and this song has an abrupt, unexpected ending...well unexpected until you have heard it once..ha.
Ah, Bill faded it out this time. I kind of miss the normal ending, but I'd imagine said ending makes it mighty hard to stick the song in the middle of a set.
Well, do you mean a spoon that you eat with, or a spoon that you do when you're 'courtin'?
Had one once. Dish ran away with it.
Can't think of anything. You? (I'm a little afraid to ask.)
Took me active listening of two albums - started with this one actually.....rest is history!
Fuck yeah, Spoon!

Of course I remember the Spoons! Cool new wave Canadian band. In fact I have Nova Heart and Arias and Symphonies on my Mp3 player. I wish Air or Zero 7 would do an instrumental version of Nova Heart.
Oooh, yeah, I can hear it already!
Fuck yeah, Spoon!
Joe.
Magical Mystery Zone?
Me too. And it is even better when the sound is loud
but rather a fork...
Sooooo boring!!!

I heard it dozens of times. The vocals of this song just aren't resonating with that odd little bit of me that loves every other Spoon tune they've ever crooned.

Spoon at San Diego Street Scene 2008.
I only caught the end of their set, but I saw them 2007, and what I saw of 2008 did not disappoint. Sorry for the low quality picture, my camera wasn't agreeing with me.
Must be the most simple bassline I've ever heard.
Yeah, but he keeps perfect time—what it's about, yes? Listen to Adam Clayton some time—same thing.
...and then I remember my high school prom in Nova Scotia in 1981, where a band called "The Spoons" from Toronto ("Romantic Traffic"? Anyone else remember them?) were supposed to play, but they bailed in the last minute and we were stuck with someone's cousin and his buddies....

Agreed! They don't release the same album over and over, they change it up, but they still manage to keep their signature sound. This recording is a bit stripped down compared to their previous album, that might be a little jarring for Spoon fans expecting a bigger sound, but it works for the songs.
BillG, what are you eating before you go to bed? Weird dreams, dude.
I just got this album and love it.
(And we would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!)
Solid 9
Yeah, they serve a treat...apologies too
what does word up mean?
