I knew one day I'd have to watch powerful men burn the world down
I just didn't expect them to be such losers
I have never seen submission embodied half so well
As in, the feeble competition between men with souls to sell
And I've never seen a guard dog with less fearsome of a bite
Than with its tail between its legs found at the rich's man side
Look at him, he's sweating, he's sweating from the climb
Office worker, soldier, CEO, he's bleedin' and he's blind
And I've never seen a creature more pitiful than him
He drinks power like saltwater, all because he cannot swim
Mouths open, servants of a higher power
They told him, it's a staircase, it's a tower
Full circle, wagging tails, wearing a collar
Poor madman, that's what happens when you drink saltwater
Burned your tongue too early and realised too late
The tragedy of losing everything you'll never taste
The clearness of the river, the honey on her tongue
Door open to communion, bein' your father's son
And I would not expect you to witness what we know
The songs sung in the dark times, the fire and the snow
We'll be piling up our pyre and defend your lords
And we'll have our joy, but it'll never be yours
Mouths open, servants of a higher power (ha)
They told him, it's a staircase, it's a tower
Full circle, wagging tails, wearing a collar (ha)
Even the dogs know not to drink saltwater
Good boy, you're working exactly as intended
Has the penny dropped? You're never gonna get it
Unrewarded for all of your defending
From your loneliness epidemic
Good boy, has any of the money trickled down yet?
You say one day you'll be rich, well, tell me how then
Unpaid marketing department for the power
Good boy, good boy
Oh-oh, good boy
Good boy
Mouths open, servants of a higher power (ha)
(Has the penny dropped? You're never gonna get it)
They told him, it's a staircase, it's a tower
(For all your loneliness epidemic)
Full circle, wagging tails, wearing a collar (ha)
(You say one day you'll be rich, well, tell me how then)
(How then) even the dogs know not to drink saltwater
(Good boy, good boy)

More like Goddess Like.
We need more Paris Paloma in our our world.
I like this. Kinda Florence & Machine esque sounding.

That opening quote is Emma Thompson speaking. Looks like Paris Paloma got her to record it... looks like the original sentiment was from Rebecca Shaw in the Guardian

Just wow!
(Music 7 + lyrics 9) / 2 = 8
She is certainly very good at making some powerful social commentary through her songs. I'm impressed.
I'm also glad that she's not a US citizen, so should be relatively protected from the increasing censorship here.
* clever paring today with Fortunate Son played after this, well done William.

So, you say that in the US a lot more than 60 thousand people per year get arrested for offensive posts on social media?!! 'Cause in the UK (population about 70 million) 12,000 got arrested each year as an average, period 2021 - 2023.
Besides, exposing toxic masculinity and whiteness is the orotected discourse everywhere, it's the one opposing it that is "offensive" all over the place
